Here's how to install a birdhouse on post with a post hole digger. Before digging your hole, moisten the soil where you will dig, make sure your blades are sharp, and let the weight of the tool and gravity do the work for you. You will need a 4x4 post to mount this birdhouse. I chose an 8 foot ground treated post. Your post should go into the ground at 1 to 4 ratio. Therefore, an 8 foot post should go into the ground 2 ft. After placing the house on the post we secured it to the post with one screw. The bird house I'm installing is the Mando Villa Birdhouse from Good Directions available here - I was thrilled to see cardinals, finches, and snow birds visit the house within just a few hours of installation

Danielle, I am hooked to your videos! You really inspire get out there and do things myself. Your point about making the tool work for us especially given our strength and stature was well-made! I do have a question though - how did you choose the location for your birdhouse?

It might be worth mentioning to those who live in areas with super hard packed clay soil, that this method could be much more difficult than you see here in good soil. So it might be worth thinking about before you start your project.

I use the post hole diggers frequently where I live, zone 10a. The problem is we have sugar sand so it-s a real pain. It just flows back down into the hole! Lol. I love that bird house.

Love watching the birds in the snow, it really makes them stand out - Love the birdhouse you chose - thanks for tips on digging, I'm only 5'2'' and you showed me that I can do it -

Do you have issues with squirrels trying to knock the birdhouse down to get at the seed? Or is it too firmly planted and screwed on. Haven-t figured out how to knock the riff off yet?

I'm confused. You wanted it to stand at 8 feet but you bought an 8 foot post? What about the length you put in the ground? Dont you have to account for that?

I can-t wait to try it myself. I imagined having to hire a big strong person to dig a two-foot deep hole! You-re a fount of knowledge. Thanks for sharing it.

I love the birdhouse against the backdrop of the evergreen tree and the birds are already checking out. I wonder which bird will eventually nest there!
