Danielle - I love to watch all of your videos - thank you for sharing your garden wisdom and inspiration! I have tried alliums of different types for the last two years. I finally got one to bloom this year - shubertii - and I love it but don-t understand my lack of success with alliums in general. They sprout but either send up a bit that wild and dies, or just turn yellow and die without sending up bloom stalks - what could I be doing wrong? I am an intermediate gardener and am usually successful with plants and all other bulbs - daffodils, tulips, crocus - bloom fine.

Here in South Carolina, I tend to plant all my fall bulbs including allium in winter time around Christmas & New Year's. (The only thing that doesn't really work for me is tulips--not enough chill hours for the regular varieties so I have to grow species tulips) Late winter planting means I have less trouble with rodents unearthing bulbs and I also can take advantage of the 50-70% off clearance sales.

Thanks for the video! Love your garden. I LOVE alliums! Have some planted 2 years ago and some just last Fall. I did notice my Globemaster alliums are noticeably smaller than last year say by about 1/3 and wonder if you-ve heard of this? Schubertii is also new this year and they are super interesting. My hair alliums planted last fall didn-t bloom at all. So I may need to plant more.

I planted Purple Sensation and Sicilian Honey Garlic last fall! Love them both! I'm having trouble with the stems on the honey garlic though. Most grew along the ground before growing vertical. I'm wondering if maybe I didn't plant them deep enough? Do you have any insight? They are so interesting and I love seeing the bees disappear inside them and pop back out. -

Love, love, love allium! I added a little blue one last year and it-s so cute, and true blue. But my favorite is drumstick allium. They bloom late and the pollinators adore them. I ordered a Few Red Mohican to try for next year. And the short squat ones actually have really pretty, wide leaves that look good for a long time.

Hi Danielle, have you got any tips on how best to dry them? It-s my first year of growing alliums and the flowers are gone but the heads are still nice to look at. I was just going to leave them till they dry but now I-m wondering if I should cut them and dry them inside. Thanks!

I have several allium questions:
Wondering how to transplant them if they were grown in a pot or somewhere you would like to change? Also Wondering the best way to find out which kind self seed?

This year I planted an allium that-s native to where I live in East Tennessee, the nodding onion (allium cernuum. It-s supposed to bloom in July so it will be interesting to see how it does.

Where are people buying their allium bulbs? A fair number of mine seem to grow for a few years and then don't come back. I suspect the bulb rots in the clay soil. Always looking for new suppliers

Alliums are gorgeous but in my last property I had no success (apparently they need a cold spell) so I am currently growing Elephant Garlic as a perennial. A much cheaper option.

Regarding the yellowing foliage, how long does it need to be left on to gather energy for next year? Also, what about dividing them? Best to wait until fall?

I-m only zone 6 but the few I planted last year did not make it through winter- maybe too shady a spot. Will try again in full sun.

Have you ever done anything with the seed? Grown it indoors? Planted them in the garden? Mine aren-t really spreading on their own.

I just bought 10 bulbs on a garden festival last week. Can I plant them already now or do I have to wait until fall?
