How to Duck Hunt Out of a Canoe

In this video, I jump shoot mallards on a large river and marsh in Ontario, Canada. Instructions on shooting safely from a canoe. downeast: I was out on my boat about a week ago, beautiful fall day, warm and little wind 4-mph or so. At one point I had the pleasure of blowing down wind, just shifting from the bow/stern solo seat to mid position would change how the boat drifted, mid seat it would turn slightly sideways, while stern seated it would raise the bow just enough to catch the breeze and keep the boat heading straight down wind. I did get one shot at three ducks, with far less results than you. Good stuff!

I was on a similar hunt a few weeks back, and I thought was was balanced well in the middle of the canoe paddling solo but I shot at some ducks and ALMOST knocked myself out of the canoe with the recoil!
Nice video. I like how you've balanced your narration with your B-roll. Hard to get good solo footage of bagging a duck though, eh?

Very informative. I plan to take my Wenonah 13 ft solo canoe down a small 14-20 ft wide stream next to a marsh here in Iowa. I have some camo material for some cover and also want to place some vegetative material at the nose of the canoe fixed there by a bungee cord. Need some colder weather for the ducks to move.

I was going to try hunting from my canoe this fall, only problem is that its white on the inside and yellow on the outside. Would you recommend I repaint it? Or would burlap suffice for camouflage.

I so want to do this next year! My pump gun is a cylinder bore, and I might take home an old Cooey single shot in full choke. Will either be of much use spitting out steel? Thanks.

Nice shot!
Here in Ohio if you throw decoys out with anchors you are trespassing since landowner owns the river bottom.
Do you have solutions for anchorless decoys?

Hi Shawn, I'm not a big fan of hunting and fishing but I enjoy more and more your videos. Great work man! Hope to see you again with Joe, Doug and Martin. :-)

Well done! Even while paddling, & video tapping you managed to track a dusk & bring it down. I'm full of admiration for your display of skill. Brian 76

Hi Shawn. I enjoyed your video very much. What type of paddle are you using in the video? I haven't seen one like that down here in Georgia (USA. :)
