peak oil? no such thing. if he thinks he can live off of the land he's mistaken. he would need a solid acre or more to grow enough veggies for one season. the growing season there is not adequate. he would need 5 or more deer for protein. and those belong to Government. to feed our population we need domestic livestock and petroleum. if the Dems get their hands on the White House well, they are proposing the banning of fossil fuel. we will starve immediately. you are not living off grid if you shop at an electric run grocery store like this guy does. he is not pure. sorry but everything he just said that's wrong with the world, he is still a part of. how will he run his farming equipment? sorry folks. i am a farmer rancher, hunter, have my own land and i still need some form of Government. i still need petro. these videos are cool but just fantasy. just like when you go camping, you have to pack your shit. My Self Reliance is actually a lie. he can afford his hobby and still stay away from his family. how does that work? purdy selfish ain't it?

Hello Shawn, I just finished watching all of your videos and you have inspired me to build my own cabin someday. I wanted to ask you a few questions but couldn't find your email. I've taken many many notes over the process of building your cabin including the tools you've used. I want to thank you for taking your time to share your knowledge with everyone. I'm beyond inspired and driven to teach myself more and to keep learning from you as well. I am 24 years old and currently living in Ohio but looking for land in Wyoming, life hasn't been great so I'm looking for a new beginning. My dream is to someday build my own horse ranch and you've helped me with some steps on getting to that goal. If you have any books in mind that helped you please respond with some Titles and any advise you may have. I want to be able to do this alone (with my dogs company of course) and to be able to look back and say I made my dream come true on my own. I hope to hear from you soon! I've only just come across your video it's exerlent what you are doing. I've always wanted to get some land woodland/forestland ideally I'd love a reasonably sized island with woodland's fortify it build an old fashioned style village live off the land grow vegetables, keep livestock, go fishing and hunting etc choose who I'd want to allow to live in my village ( if they are decent and have useful skills then it would ideal ) i had anuff of the so called civilised society a long long time ago i didn't even like the so called civilised society when i was a young boy. I've always been an outdoorsy person from a very early age i hate cities, towns and don't really like villages as in villages of the so called civilised society. like i said i think it's exerlent what you are doing. hopefully i will get to do the same but my little old fashioned style fortified village ideally on a reasonable sized island with woodlands etc. Keep up the good work i will be watching more of your video's Godbless

Shawn you are Amazing. tossing those giant timbers around like it was no big thing! And you still have a spring in your step every time we see you hauling the next one! You are somethin' alright! What you said in the video. time spent in the city just reinforces the need to be self-reliant and removed from the crowded, toxic, environment that large cities have become, just struck me in the heart! I hate the way cars and traffic have designed the growth of our cities and our lives. I'm aching to move out of the city I'm in and have a tiny house, on a little piece of land, where I could grow my own food, live off grid, and make a place for my daughter to come to when things so south and everyone is scrambling! Hey, Shawn. I watched this particular video 2 years ago. Im planning on purchasing some land in Montana. 10 miles from Canadian border. Im a 61 year old female! WHAT AM I THINKING! Ok, I wanna do this. Ive always wanted to learn rock climbing and kayaking but never have been able to. so this is it! Building my place in the Woods! Oh, I need your experience to keep me focused! I've been watching your videos for a while now, but since I wasn't following from the very start, I started with the newer ones and only now got over this one. I've been enjoying your videos thinking you are just into nature, never realizing that the basis for all this is the crazy prepper mentality. Do you have a plan for a zombie apocalypse scenario? Just kidding, I'll have to pretend that I didn't hear this one lol.

Shawn - what size were the foundation logs? I assume that you took some logs to have them milled for the foundation? These kinds of materials are a little more difficult to find in the American Midwest. About how many linear-feet of logs did you use for the initial building?

This was the first time I saw the foundation of the cabin. What did you use, 10-12 square beams? Is that what the pine tar was for?
I've read several comments about you should have put down a good foundation, well it looks like you did. Now I've got to find the next one.
