Cali got hurt. Smoked Oak Flooring for the Off Grid Workshop

Cail the golden retriever, strains or breaks her ankle running through the forest. Today is day three and she's on anti-inflamatories but is still limping badly. I'll give an update on my other channel as soon as I have more information from the vet. On the workshop, I waterproof one side of the roof and while waiting to mill more lumber for the other side, I dry out oak planks that I milled in the summer on the fire and smoke them to give them more character. The next step is to insulate the floor, fasten the oak boards to the floor joists and wire brush the planks before applying a sealer

Oh no I pray it's not broken, fractured or a ligament tear. These can end up requiring surgery and long respites which Cali won't like at all.
Poor Cali won't want to be crated for 8 to 10 weeks while her dad is gone all day. She may need to go stay with her mom and hooman sisters if she ends up requiring bed rest because that girl won't rest at the cabin. Ha Ha Cali is attached to her dad's hip.
Sending lots of love, positive thoughts and prayers for Cali to get better soon.

Must be the week for goldens to hurt their paws my golden Harley did it to his right front paw and Cali did it to her left rear paw. Good grief sending Cali ton's of hugs and kisses and prayers for a quick healing. Alot of limping going on for sure and lots of hugs. It's a challenge to keep them down because they always want to be with yah and you can't be out of their sight lol. Merry Christmas to you Shawn, you family and Cali too. Gods blessings.

Dear Shawn, it's been a difficult year for you and many others, but it's coming to an end. let all the sorrows and tribulations remain in the old year, and in the new year let luck, happiness and prosperity be with you! I noticed that you had a successful hunt, so you will not have to starve this winter! I wish Cali a speedy recovery!

Poor Cali. hope she gets better real soon. Shawn, the closest I came to seeing deer this season was on this video. Logging company finally came by and cleared cut approximately 100 acres, just yards from my set up and of course I ran into, yet, another poacher. Thanks for sharing the video.

Oh dear! What a shame! I do hope she recovers! She is the star of your show! I follow you both as a team but to see Cali running around tail wagging with a huge smile on her face is like a walk with Angel's. Bless her! Wishing her a speedy recovery. Hope all goes well with her healing xxxx

Could be a bite from that squirrel she was chasing a while back? If it's a sprain, usual relief advice is using a combination of ice and heat packs along with bathing or wrapping injury in warm Epsom or Himalayan salt water. Also, putting your feet up but can't see Cali doing that!

Hey! My husband love to have coffee and watch the show every morning Butt this morning he's climbing all over a roof and I can't watch because all I can think of he's gonna fall someone should be there oh. My dog! Get off the roof. Thank you for the animal & aerial shots

Shou Sugi Ban. Excellent. Thanks for teaching your variation of that technique.
I hope that what happened to Cali is not serious and she recovers soon. Will you leave her in the first cabin so she can rest, or can she go to the new workshop on the sled?

reply

Hope Cali is doing better and are healing fast. Good job on the roof and so nice to see how you use smoke and fire to preserve that wood. Just like in the old days. Old cabins and barns up north are still standing. Have a great weekend.
