Building an Off Grid Log Cabin Alone in the Wilderness, Ep20, Roof Framing is Finished

Short days caused by high humidity and afternoon thunderstorms slow me down but I was able to finish framing the roof which prepares me to start drying in the cabin this week, well before winter starts. I remove the last of the steel cables from the trees, relieved that I am finished hoisting heavy logs into place. Each afternoon, we go for walks along the creek in the cool, shaded forest, observing that the water levels are starting to rise again after hitting lows a couple of weeks ago. At this time of year, I'm able to get most of my food from the garden and the forest so I cook a campfire meal of grilled bear, fresh potatoes and onions with chaga tea on the side.

I found a video where some guy had a farm and was getting too many flies in his area so he tried a bunch of methods to try to decrease the amount of them and the best one that worked was the one where he had this roll of fly trap paper that was made with something that lured flies to it and it would stick on it and he wrapped that around some trash cans that he turned upside down. But I think they could be wrapped around some trees or some kind of manmade post structures and they could help decrease the no see ums and gnats and things around there. You'd have to check and see if they are catching flying insects that you don't want them to which would be beneficial to your garden though but if trapped would hurt the garden? I don't know. I have a feeling they will most likely catch the pest flying insects though. It's still interested content to see all those gnats and flies caught on the sticky paper.

nice montage intro. a suggestion for it. with the banjo music at one point near the end of the intro you have a great oportunity to change the shots with the tune as the banjo hits a high note plays a few and hits another high note. it would let you do a quick slide to each new pic. be something to keep in mind for future or any re-edits on the series.

Hi Shawn, congratulations on completing this milestone; I can see your excitement. Having watched your previous cabin being built, I'm curious to know, as a percentage, how much bigger this cabin is? Also, is it still your intention to bring the toilet and shower/steam room inside? Take care, Dave from the UK

That beginning compilation really drives home how much work you have done, I cant believe a human was capable of that much work singlehandly. You make Dick Pronecke look like he was working with tinker toys. Impressive to say the least.

So peaceful up there in Canada even with the thunderstorm approaching. You sure are making progress on that roof. Glad you and Cali are able to enjoy the waterfalls. Much love to her. Stay safe.

I loved the video of the rainbow reflecting in the water! Do you ever see the auroras? If so, could you show them in your videos? Thanks!

That noise at the start wasn't a bird. it was the call of a Predator, next movie in the franchise will be Canadian vs Predator
