Hi Shawn, I work in IT and have had the same issue you mentioned with internal and external hard drives. Word of warning, I ve had nothing but problems with Seagate drives so my recommendation is to steer clear of that brand. Never buy SATA drives because of moving parts when bumped or dropped can damage the read/write head. Very sensitive to vibration. Purchase SSD, no moving parts and tend to be more reliable and stable. Not as sensitive to vibration and dropping. You still want to take care not to drop them but not near as sensitive. My preference is Western Digital, SanDisk, Crucial, Kingston. Hope this helps with your future storage issues.

Well sir, living off grid and you still have modern problems. Time to upgrade your storage system. My needs are small but have had great experience with Samsung T7, the latest is called shield with a rubber cover, 4TB for 200USD. I require redundant backup because data storage is relatively cheap, especially faced with the prospect of data loss and no hard copies. My storage is audio only, well very little video, so the file sizes are much smaller than yours. You'll get your data back and will not allow this to happen again. Happy Holidays, sir.

Hi Shawn, I assume you don't have Internet access at the cabin because if you did you could upload all your hard drive data to the cloud (An external server hosted by a third party ie: Microsoft) which would prevent you from ever losing any data ever again. As soon as you put new data on your hard drive it automatically sends a copy to the cloud. If you don't have Internet access at the cabin you could go to an open WiFi area and sync to the cloud that way but might be too far of a drive and more of a hassle. Just a thought.

You may want to transition to USB drives to store your data or use the Cloud. Hard drives are slower than solid state devices anyway. The hard drive unless it was solid state has moving parts that go bad all the time. Also if you fill a hard drive to full it will start writing in bad parts of your drive. They can get data off, but your are right it will cost you! Sorry to hear.

SHAWN & OUR CALI Yeppers it was dripping rain down here also! Want to plant some more plants in the Kitchen now for food! Love to grow things even in the winter time! It is fun to do it! You are a great woodsman cutting so much of the logs on up there! Seeing you with the woodstove with bread on it to toast makes me hunger for a wood stove to toast my bread on it also!

Im interested in wether the new stove heats the cabin up like the old one did. From visual cues IE the wearing of sweatshirts and layers inside leads me to believe it may not. Great for cooking maybe not so great for heating up the space? Not condemning the stove yet just some questions cause I really do like the stove and have looked at them myself but havent purchased.

Always a treat to see you and Cal. You are such a driven man. I would call you focused, but then you are a man, and priorities get changed. :) You have a steep set of stairs to the basement. My priority would be a railing, but by the time I got upstairs I would find something else to partially complete.

Sure wish I had the skills, tools, and land to do something like this. Living in a small town here in ohio doesn't permit me to do this. I can't move away because my mom is ill, and besides that, my girlfriend wouldn't want to move away from her family, but I sure would love this type of lifestyle.

Are you taking meal requests? I've been hoping for a rerun of poutine. I've been wanting to give it a try myself since the first time I saw you make it, but at this point I'm afraid to miss an ingredient. Speaking of requests, maybe a podcast with Doug? Its always fun when he gets into the mix.

My husband and I enjoy watching you and Callie. You have built yourself a beautiful, beautiful cabin! Love the new stove! I see your cooking with a #8 cast iron pan! Is that a Griswold? Eye candy! I have some Griswold myself. My new hobby to restore them to their original beauty!

Yes Shawn some of these cheaper back-up systems can be pretty useless as I have found to my cost and I lost years of memories I had stored due to whatever reason. Tried taking it to a specialist in town but to no avail - so they are gone except what I recall from my own mind.

Whilst the content is always good, and 'Cali' contributes so much, eating in the wilderness is mightily well portrayed in your videos. I am sure meal breaks are enjoyable, and you certainly know how to get our senses provoked - I would eat at your place any day of the week

Not a big fan of the wood stove. It looks unbalanced, with the firebox on one side, smaller, that the oven. Also, how often do you use the oven? Sometimes, a wood firebox should just be a firebox, and an oven should be an oven! Only my opinion. Look after Cali, an amazing dog!

Are you also going to make wooden doors, I don't know the English name for it, for the windows? To close them when its really cold in winter? Or is there enough heat in the cabin in the winter?
Where i live old houses have them on the outside of each window.

Shawn could you share the conditions temperature wise in different areas of the cabin when you get away from the wood stove? Are you still planning a bedroom addition which would be even further from the heat source? Enjoy and appreciate your hard work!
