Happy New Year! I have big plans for 2025! Log Cabin Building, Bushcraft, Survival Skills, Cooking, Canadian Wilderness, Off Grid Living, Homesteading Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me. Shawn, A very happy and healthy New Year to you and your family! I've been watching these clips for quite some time. You are SO smart and SO well organized and well planned. You have a very huge garden and lots and lots of fruit trees and a chicken coop and lots and lots of good healthy food to last you a good long while. Plus, you are well planned and have a very good supply of other things. The bottom line is you are prepared for any situation or catastrophe that could possibly arise. Plus, all of the building that you're doing yourself, but it's well worth it because you're saving an awful lot of money and ensuring that things are well built and substantial and done properly the way that you want them. And you're always thinking and planning way ahead. Plus you went on a diet, and your health improved. Always eat carefully and stay very healthy! Keep up the great work! You truly are self reliant! I commend you!

you could go smaller logs and flatten them on 3 sides. the round faces out to keep the round log appearance of cabin. the flattened sides can be cut for planks and 2x4's even.
select some logs of awesome character and use those to make a master bed with a canopy and nice fat posts on the corners. use bug netting as the canopy cover. the Missus can help with making it look awesome. use under the bed as seasonal clothes storage. even make a Cali bed the same way as a model to get the idea set in your mind
or do a murphy bed setup and double duty the room as a crafting area

ahh yes Happy New Year. sure it was slow. but it was still relaxing to watch; ). I fully expect this winter will be lots of cutting video's getting the lumber you want for building organized. so in the warmer weather most of the moving is done and it will be lots of building of the workshed and bedroom.
dont forget to make a few camping spots around the land as well for those quick get a ways
it is funny how people dont understand that 2 days a week MINIMUM are taken up with getting fire wood. thats 104 days a year folks very near 1/3rd of the time to do anything.

I'm a knitter I know the look, when I'm giving gifts I've made for people. The look is basically an unspoken indication they would rather I spent money on something that came from a store machine made and will probably break within 6 months to a year. I have to admit I'm running out of ideas of what to make them. So this year I bought breakfast cereal for them all. Last year half of them got night masks to help them sleep at night. As a former Boy Scout Camp Archery instructor I'm always impressed with your arrow making.

Shawn, my friend, you're looking gaunt, not youthful anymore; maybe the diet Our daughter and family, newly moved to this our mountain, had no money for gifts and made all handmade from her kitchen for Christmas. They are the best! I enjoy all your videos! Could you do much more about what your wife does, all homestead related that she's learning Regards from conservative, far north rural California.

May the New Year be filled with good health & happiness for you, your family & Cali! It's been a while since I've caught one of your videos. Cali is starting to look older now. I dont remember how old she would be now, but I've been watching you since she was a lot younger. Heres hoping we see many more years with her too!

Happy New Year Shawn!
My family and I have been watching for around 8yrs.
You inspired me to buy a timber property. It already had a structure on it, so we recycled it, so to speak.
We are debt free in central Arkansas, in a recently rehabbed home, that we did ourselves.
Thank you for your videos and inspiration.

Happy New Year. One of the best gifts I ever got was a Cedar chest my dad made for me. A cedar tree had fallen on the farm and he killed it naturally in the top of the barn for over a year. He didn't use any nails either. Maybe your wife or daughter might like that. I'm sure you have some cedar around your place.

So we're not still worried about world ending this year I guess hey. I mean, that seemed to be the big motivator. The next big turn of the cycle or whatever causing a big societal collapse this year, remember Oh well, on to the next delusional conspiracy I guess. Maybe another whole new diet again.

Less videos by far. That's what happens as things begin to be refined a little bit every year. It has happened here in our nearly 20 years on the mountain, until, in my sixties, I mostly garden, and that's it. We have 30 acres here, and heavy machinery that helped that refinement.

I think when anyone makes something special for somebody else as a gift it means so much. Its personlized and it was made with u being thought of. Usually the gift is unique too. Wonderful idea for xmas. Xmas has become too commercialized and expensive any more any way.

So interesting. The arrows are not simple to make. Wonder how many arrows are normally carried in the quiver while hunting. And if the colors identify who shot the arrow. Truly loving gifts. Crowns of feathers.
