World's Best Ice Fishing Tip-up?

World's Best Ice Fishing Tip-up?

In my opinion this is the world's best tip-up for nearly any species, but I find it works particularly well with finicky winter brook trout. They can be set in such as way as to never miss a bit as the arm tips over and slides the washer down the track. Best of all the arm stays down, the bait moves freely giving the fish slack, so fish aren't spooked or drop the minnow. When the bolt and washer runs the track, you can often hear it, also with the arm up, the red tape is highly visible even from a great distance against the white snow. In windy conditions, it's easy to set the arm against the wind to keep it from tipping over and on calm days it can be set level so that any touch of the tip-up will set it so you never miss a bite. Please show your version of this tip-up if you decide to make your own! Dimensions: - Base - 17 x 4 (3/4 thick) - Height - 10x 2 (3/4 thick) - Arm - 27 (3/4 thick) - Balance point about 13 1/2 from front end (will depend on the size of your bolt/washer) - Track made of coat hanger - Real made of line spool - Eyeball the rest!

You could use the same concept and not have to cut the groove. I used a wire coat hanger and a sliding egg sinker. Put the sinker on the wire (10 - 12-, then bend about an inch of the wire ends down. Insert the bent ends into drilled holes (Want the wire to fit tight and not move or fall out. you can adjust the sinker for any weight jig / lure to keep it perfectly balanced by moving it forward / backward. Once a fish pulls, the tip down will go down, the egg sinker will slide down the wire just as your bolt did. Much easier then cutting a grove in the board. and it works great.

Love this idea man, seen a good bunch of setups this last week but this is the best. gonna try to add a spring and a couple washers between the reel and wood though with a wing nut. use it like an adjustable drag system! let you know if it works! thanks again for the great idea!

i have some pix on craigslist ill see if i can post some, you can even catch small bluegills on these ans no wind trips i use them for perch since they black out the holes

Can you do a video building one? Just to see how you come to your balance point, or what you do do if you run into an issue during the build.
