Join Adam Craig Outdoors and me in search of the much prized muskrat. Then my 8-year-old son and I enjoy brinned and seasoned muskrat cooked over open fire so that NOTHING IS WASTED! Adam Craig Trapping With Wilson - First Fur: -TO THE VIEWER, muskrat is both plentiful and in need of control. In Canada, muskrat is carefully controlled and protected by special regulations. Rather than just waste the animal, we decided to eat it. If you want more information, don't hesitate to ask, but please be respectful! Link: -We just launched Season 2 of our SURVIVAL CHALLENGE!

Muskrat is good as is, without brining and/or boiling it first. Boiling removes flavour into the broth. Better to roast it on a slow fire for a few hours, or wrap it in aluminum paper with butter, seazoning (salt, pepper) and some onion or other flavouring herbs/veggies and put it on embers. It is really excellent food, a bit like dear: very dense, dark game meat.
Stew is nice too, if you want to have the meat drop off the bone and some potatoes or veg (f. e. pumpkin) added half an hour before it's done.

My Grandfather was a trapper in the time of the Great Depression in Wisconsin. He ate them, only when he did not have something tastier. Better than nothing he said.

that's real man food. first time i've ever seen eating without a spoon but a twig from the ground. I should try that some day. But for muskrat meat, i'll have to pass.
reply

- just pass me like a whole wing and I'll eat it off- lol -- I like this kiddo. At some point the cook muskrat may have looked like a chicken lol -

I'm not sure why that trap is legal. I would rather see live trap and shot. Even it is was a BB gun. A spear. Drowning sounds gross.

when i heard the kid say he didn't like chocolate I was concerned, but then he said he only likes milk chocolate. I'm the same way.
