another technique I'd consider and maybe more useful long term is instead of covering the meat with the clay - making a clay oven than cooking the clay to harden it so you can reuse the oven with any kind of meat and embers covering the open part with a big rock or a made wooden lid or lid made of woven twigs covered with clay like those old time woven houses and putting embers either around the meat inside the oven (preheating it beforehand) or even putting the meat inside the oven and covering the oven itself with embers so in both cases the meat cooks like in a conventional electric oven (clean and all) but with all primitive hand made stuff and clean the meat or pluck it afterwards and even put some veggies maybe (dunno if they are gonna dry up or burn tho. maybe big potatoes and other similar big root stuff that can withstand dry cooking or even stuff the bird with stuff to protect it) maybe it will be even faster in a ready made preheated clay oven.

Lots of work and I appreciate your well documented video. Amazing job! I think scorching or burning off the feathers would be better. Remove any non-edible entrails (intestines, stomach. Finding some non-poison leaves to wrap the chicken/fowl, then pack mud around that. Think of it as Canadian-Hawaiian cooking style. :) Three plus hours to cook a bird is dedication. I think this is beyond ancient cooking. When I think of cooking food encased in mud/clay, I think of a Romertopf Clay Baker. What's the challenge of making a clay vessel to cook in? Is it making a kiln to form the clay cooking vessel plus a lid? Keep up the great work.

I think you guys are really cruel. Video after video you guys are killing animals and eating them. It-s really disturbing to watch you kill animals that breathes the same air we do. Just go to the freakin store or home to eat. That-s like a maniac hunting, killing and eating one of your family members just to post a video online, that-s exactly what you guys are doing to these poor animals

Cleaning the feather off and wrapping it in banana leaf keeps it clean. also you can stuff it with anything you like if you clean its gut -. well i get the idea what you are doing here. nice attempt. and i helped you by feeding air to the amber. --

Interesting, you were super careful not to disturb the organs in case they contaminated the meat with bacteria. I bet you that our ancestors who may have used this technique found out the hard way that it's better to gut and clean before cooking,

What do I think?
I think that you ruined the bird!
Next time just pluck the feathers, gut the bird, and cook it on a rotisserie, or cut it up and stew it in a pot with some potatoes and onions, and carrots.

I'm good with this whole idea except for the entrails being not removed. Other than that it's pretty good idea although it's far too much work. Plucking and shoving a stick through it would have been a lot easier

That was a really interesting technique. Appreciate you doing that, looked like a lot of work. Certainly looked very good when you were tucking into the bird.
Thanks for the video!
