I caught a huge stingray on the bay with a river rod it took me 3-4 hours just to get him to surface for 3 seconds then he dove straight down and snapped my rod in two. he was maybe 200+ pounds thing was massive his tail was about as thick as that surf rod that guy was using.

That hook will not get dissolved in a couple of weeks. Specially if its a stainless steel one. Try put a hook like that in salt water and check it your self a couple of weeks later. If you cant relief the animal from the hook DONT FISH IN THE FIRST PLACE
