I agree with you that squid that has been refrozen several times and absolutely minging catches fish. I keep mine in old takeaway containers, session size batches, and what I don't use ends up surrounded by stinking juices which makes excellent chum for close in fishing on the piers and quaysides. Mix the stinking juices with some bran and it's an instant scent trail. Word of advice, if using absolutely lifting squid don't go to the supermarket for beer on the way home, you will not be popular; )

Who remembers the episode of Red Dwarf where they found an ocean planet - even though they knew there were no fish, they were going anyway, just to -dangle the rods over the side and chill out-. Anyone else totally get that? Haha, I used to go fishing all the time when I was a kid and I honestly think John catches more in one trip than I ever have, but I also don-t care. There-s just something about fishing. The episode was Dimension Jump if anyone is interested.

Marine scientist training here - the likely reason your waters are now green tinted is that you-re in the spring plankton bloom. It-s a good thing ecologically, this is where the phytoplankton gets good growth to start feeding all the other things in the food web! Your water looks murky now but it makes for all those great fish you-ll be catching in the next weeks/months. Thanks for the films, wish I could be there to tidepool and forage, looks gorgeous.

Very odd things happening with your video. I have been subbed for a while and I watch, like, and comment often to stay informed. this video is not on my subscription page, I only saw it because it was on my home page. where it says it was posted 4 hours ago ( for reference it is march 15th at 12: 36 EST) but the comments are 22 hours old. Not complaining to you, just wanted you to know something is -off- in case you are also seeing issues on your side.

Oh what awesome Whiting I haven't seen one that big. Have caught heaps of Sand Whiting. The Ling is huge. The Dolphins are beautiful to watch. Went fishing with my Dad a few years ago in a little tinny, Dad put his hand over the side of the boat and a dolphin blew in his hand. poor Dad nearly capsized the boat. scared the life out of him

Well done you for perserveering. Another great video, thanks. I-m going Tope fishing this summer for first time out of Watchet, Somerset. Can you tell me please, which setup. 1, 30-50 lb. ugly stick with TDL 25 and 50lb mono, or 2, 12-20 lb. ugly stick with sloss 20 and 30 lb. mono. Thank you and good luck.

Hi John, is there a specific way to dispatch fish by species or is it the same for all? I have only ever dispatched mackerel by bending the head back but i have just bought myself a kayak so hoping to get a few more species when lockdown is over and I can get the better half to drive me to the coast

Beautiful sized whiting, John. An excellent ling too. You've been a huge boon during lockdown. Us oldies who don't have too many more fishing seasons left appreciate your work. Hoping to be on our charter skipper's boat out of Plymouth in a week or two. All the best, Max.

Great video as usual mate, so informative. I remember my Dad catching a monster ling out on a charter from Falmouth, really beautiful fish to eat.
Looking forward to the catch and cook video's of the ling and whiting.
And btw the dolphin's are amazing cheer up any day.
