Spring time is upon us and I thought it was time to try and put out the lobster pots again. Here is the first set and hand haul of our lobster and crab pots for 2021. I hope this is how the year intends to continue. Here is our video on how to setup and fish lobster pots from a small boat

A really great start to the season and such a calm sea on both occasions. Regarding crab and lobster sizes they must vary a lot across the country (UK. My local fishmonger's crabs come from Cromer, they are quite small many not as big as some of the ones you threw back. The same goes for her lobsters. The firm was established in the 1940s so I'm sure that they must be legal. It always surprises me how calm the lobsters are they don't seem to want to defend themselves, could do a lot of damage with those pincers.
Really looking forward to this season's videos.

I love your videos John. They are amazing and educational to watch. Even thou you do repeat a lot in your video-s- well that-s actually the best part because we are constantly being educated. I absolutely love it. To the point now when I watch your videos I guess which species it is and then see how well I-ve paid attention when you tell us again. -. Love to see you and your family enjoying foraging and cooking together and Hannah and James our both great in your videos. Keep up the good work guys! --

You seem a happy soul. I spent many a happy day in Cornwall, I guess it's infectious. Many moons ago I bought a large cod straight off the boat, sorted it and cooked it in butter wrapped in tinfoil over the fire embers. Flakes of cod the size of the palm of your hand, that and some butter and crusty bread. Nearly had an organism. (something like that. Great video, thanks and good luck for this season.

Hi John, great video as ever. Do you ever keep the velvet swimming crabs? If so, what do you do with them? I-ve never seen them in the UK but I-ve seen them for sale in fish markets in other parts of the world. I assume they don-t have much meat on them, So I suppose they are used for soups or sauces. Do they ever end up in the fish locker kitchen?

hey John, massive lobster indeed. A neat video diary/future videos with the pots this season would be to track what types of baits you use and the results of fishing them. Im sure you do that all the time but to newbies that have no idea, it would be an interesting topic. Great video, cheers mate.

When I lived in Oregon, USA, I would go out crabbing all the time. The crabs that were there in that area were Dungeness crabs. They look similar to what you refer to as -edible crabs-. Also, out in Oregon, you're not allowed to keep the female crabs. Only males of a certain size.

Fal Bay is just lovely, one of my favourite places. Watching your vids, I can-t help think you need a bigger boat! Looking in to the future, the macaroni is so mouthwatering ( or is that a spoiler) thanks to you both

Your brown edible crabs look similar to the american stone crab, are they the same? There they just harvest the claws and let the crab re grow the claw, is this allowed in the UK?
