This recipe looks fantastic. We like a good fish dinner a couple of times a week, even the kids get stuck in and aren't fussy when it comes to fish!
On a side note, this bought up a memory where when we were on holiday in Torquay, (from Birmingham) our friends found a huge wrasse that someone had discarded from a fishing trip on the caravan site. This was late after the pub and we'd had had a few drinks!
They thought it would be funny to leave it on the steps of our caravan and hide, when I found it I went into chef mode and proceeded to gut and fillet it. I got it seasoned and in the oven and our mates came over to see if their 'prank' had worked, I showed them the remains and said it's cooking if they wanted a taster when it's cooked.
We all had a little bite to eat and when we were finished they went back to their caravan. I waited a few minutes until they were all settled in and set a smoke bomb off under the spillage hole in the floor of their 'van! They evacuated rather quickly!
Was so funny and it was such a great way to get our own back: )

LOL. Sat on my bed after work eating pot noodles; I know what I'd rather eat!
YEARS ago in the early to mid 70s we stayed in Portheleven Cornwall, & Dad & I went fishing off the coast with handlines.
I caught a dogfish, & Dad caught a Bream. We ate them both, but I can only remember the doggy or 'rock salmon, ' as it was optimistically called.
THAT was because the skin was like sandpaper!
THANKS to you FL I know alot more about fishing, mainly sea fishing, but I've also managed to pick up
'THE COMPLETE FISHING MANUEL' book by H. Gilbey (2011. One of the Dorling Kindersley's book series, well illustrated & with plenty of diagrams.
SO, the only thing missing now, is me Dad-

WOW - Brilliant! Thanks 'glamorous' John for the catchin' and Jim for the cookin'! -- The Bream looked to die for, especially the Spanish one with Onions & Tomatoes. Thanks to Jim for his Patatas Bravas information. I had them when eating out once, and then bought some frozen ones from a certain German supermarket, and they were just plain cubes of Potato. Thanks to Jim, I can make my own now! Regards to all - stay safe & well. --

Been a while since I've watched your videos my friend. Charter season here in Florida has slowed due to weather so I'm catching up now.
Those Bream looked alot like our Pinfish we catch here.
Now watching the cooking part of the video reminded me of the Salmon and Almaco Jack that I smoked in the smoker last week.
Delicious.
Hope you and your family have been safe and healthy.
Take care my friend. Cheers.

Hello John. As always a very entertaining video, so thank you all for that. Just one thing, I don't know why your father-in-law doesn't take out the gills when he guts the fish. I live in Spain and we eat a lot of -pescado al horno-, sea bass, red bream, giltheads. Never ever leave gills in, or the black stomach lining. Both are very bitter. But I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Saludos.

In Chinese culture, it is very bad luck to flip the fish to get at the meat on the other side. It means to flip our fortune for the worse. I always found it a bit silly, but flipping it does make a bit of a mess to clean up. Is it the same for the English?
Thank you again to Uncle Jim Spargos Kitchen for teaching me to cook fish in all of these fancy ways.

Oh that looks good, you must be in Ireland. I used to live in Taunton Massachusetts, USA East Coast. I used to go fishing in the Cape, and striped bass is one of my favorite species. That-s a long time ago, I am now 65 years old and I just had a stroke. What I-m doing okay now. What species were going to try next! See you later now-.

It all looks so lovely.
Next time though-put a lightly damp dish cloth under your cutting board. Having it sliding around whilst chopping is so dangerous.
I love good whole fish. Ive been on an Asian streak while cooking. I might have done one teriyaki style too lol.
Lovely video and now I want fish at 5am.

Just watched the Patatas Bravas bit again John, to write it all down. Jim put some Sea Salt and White Pepper in the top of the bowl, and then said -for some flavour- whilst he added another powdered ingredient, but he didn't say what it was! Can you ask him please? This might be the 'make or break' element of the recipe!

Hello Fish Locker team! Lovely to see Senior Spargo helping out again, hoping that he's ok and you're all well. Lovely flavours going on, I do love a pan roast so getting two recipes in one vid is a treat! I've heard the 'broadening my vocabulary' when using a dictionary or thesaurus excuse too many times as well! ;-)
