On the beach locally if u go down at low tide turning rocks there around 100s of small edible brown crabs but I've never seen any bigger than the size of the velvet back crab you caught, believe me when I went out with my brother we occasionally found a good size lobster but not a single edible crab of any size, I'm wondering if it's been over fished cuz it's not a huge beach and theirs lobster pots a stones throw away from where we go foraging at the bottom of the tide you could probably wade out to them and only go waist deep. It is good that theirs plenty of small crabs cuz atleast that shows theirs mature ones mating but they must be sticking to deeper waters.

The amount and variety of life you find and share with us is great to see!
I remember back in the mid-seventies, when pollution was just starting to make the news, fearing that when I was older, and had children of my own, we'd perhaps not have the amazing adventures of rock pooling. To me, there is no place as awesomely beautiful as Cornwall and North Devon.
Can't wait for our two weeks in paradise to come around this year, it's mostly all that keeps me plodding along on the 9 - 5 rat run!

You live in an amazingly beautiful place. I am so jealous -- I live in the Netherlands. We do have a lot of beaches, but because we are a very flat country and most of our shores are human made, we don't have any stone beaches and we definitely don't have little rocks and caves. I've tried foraging here but there is just no use hahahahahh
Also, maybe it's a little crazy but I would love to see a video of you going down the shore at night with a uv light. And just see wat you can find-

Whoa you got one. In nature you have keep watch of the time of the day get caught in the middle of tide quite heart racing might be dangerous, today I learn from you that while we sometime like to eat a soft shell crab, you don't eat soft shelled lobster (cause it just change it armor, and it will be mostly water, thank you for the lesson, doesn't have a chance to vacationing to beach yet. So I keep it for next opportunity. Yet my aim still the clams and shells.

Thank you, I really enjoyed this episode, all the different varieties of life that you pointed out and talked about and the best bit for me was seeing the lobster moving across the sandy bottom, such beautiful colours and lovely to see one moving about for such a long time. I'm very glad Mr Lobster did not get taken home for tea.

Thanks for your videos, they are so fun and relaxing. I'm watching as I get my seeds started for this summer: ) I was always taught to never put the rock back on top of critters so they don't get squished. I think the first person to show me this was Steve Irwin (not IRL - I wish! I used to watch him a lot though.

I can-t really find an answer for this online, when catching a lobster in this way do you need a licence? From what I-ve found you need one when dropping pots and diving? Anyone know anything about this or what the laws are? Cheers
Quality Video by the way! Absolutely love these shore exploration docs! :)

Another beautiful video.
I drive buses in London, and you are the my stress relief.
Thank you.
When I get the time, I escape to fish in the Solent near Portsmouth.
I don't care if I don't catch anything, just being away from the noise for a few hours makes me feel so happy.

I-m so jealous cos I really want to coastal forage too. But, I live in state of Victoria in Australia and we can-t forage around intertidal zones. We need to go diving if we want to collect anything -
At least I get to watch how it-s done in your country -
