I have been in the fortunate position to have traveled all over Canada to fish, but at my core I am and always will be a paddler. Since the kids were born my canoe trips dwindled, but I've never lost the desire. For me this was the first trip of substance in quite some time. For my 10 year old son Brendan it was his very first. We spent 12 days tripping deep into the interior of Algonquin Park carrying heavy loads for many miles over rough portages and paddling for days on end. For a kid this wasn't simply getting his feet wet, he jumped right into the pool! He is definitely my son because he never gave up once and handled the hardships without complaints. I was incredibly proud. Along the way we caught numerous large wild brook trout, several well over 5 pounds. That is something I've never done before in Algonquin, and it was a big surprise. For a kid's first trip, well, he hit the lottery! For many reasons this was the best trip I've ever done in my life. I've pieced together this video chronicling the entire adventure. Have a look and come along for the ride! www. canadafishingguide. net

Great video, and what great memories you are building for your son. I plan on taking my 13 yr old son with me into Algonquin this spring, we'll be setting off from boat launch #3 and seeing if we can catch a few for some nice photos. I plan to pick up some of the Weaver Grabbers that you suggested, as any edge might help. We normally fly fish streams here in southern Ontario, so fishing lakes for brook trout is a different area for us. What size would you recommend that we stick with when it comes to the Weaver Grabbers. Thanks, and keep sending the videos, they're great! Ralph (from Toronto.

WOW what a awesome experience! I warms my heart to see the great relationship that you have with your son. The bonding that has occured during and the memories that you have made will last a life time. I grew up in the Ottawa Valley as a kid and use to venture to Algonquin Park for the amazing brook trout fishing in the creeks. Now I must plan a trip back to relive some great moments again. Thank you very much for posting and all the best to you and your family!

looks like a great time. I'm going with a friend this year for a combination of fishing and relaxing. I'm trying to figure out what time of year to go. Right now I'm leaning toward the end of May. I've been watching lots of videos from previous years getting a rough idea of weather possibilities. Can I ask what time of year you were there? or if you have any input on what to expect at the end of May? Thanks!

I got some weaver lures for my up coming canoe trip in Algonquin, are you tying these spoons directly to the line or are you using a leader? some of my spons have a small split ring on the end, I am afraid the joint in the split ring could break my line, help please. great video by the way. any tips for a trout newbie are always great

Right on awesome video! My son turns 3 in October and I'm already getting excited for taking him on his first interior trip. It wont be for a couple more your but I sure hope we can get into at least a few of the beautiful Brookies! I've been on well over 20 interior trips and only caught brook trout on one of them. Thanks and Tight Lines!

Stumbled across this purely by accident. I'm in tears, anticipating the day I can make these kinds of Algonquin memories with my own son (he's 2. When Neil Young started playing, I lost it. I cant wait to watch more, and learn more. I already wrote down those spoons you used. Thank you for sharing this wonderful treasure of a video!

I've covered a lot of ground in the park over the years, and I remember nearly everything about those routes visually. suffice to say, I didn't recognize a thing. so I'd say your secret's pretty well hidden! Though if I had to put money on it, I'd say not far from one of the major rivers on the West side of the park: )

Great Father/Son fishing trip! I hope your response to the FOI was -Nope, go fish! -: )
I wonder if someone can do a FOI to find out who made the FOI request. based on earlier comments, my money is on -Sam the bushcraft Man-. :) (Sam - if I'm wrong, sorry bud)
Cheers for keeping secret fishing holes a secret.

Awesome video. Going in May of 2020. I just recently got a dehydrator would love to know your Alfredo bacon recipe as I heard you shouldn-t dehydrate Alfredo sauce? It looked awesome, a man can only take so much red sauce lol. Also what size spinners would you recommend for Brookies? Would a blue fox #3 be too big?
