FISHING TACKLE FOR AN ALGONQUIN CANOE TRIP - Canada Fishing Guide

A close look at the fishing tackle I packed for an extended canoe trip to Algonquin Park, with the quarry being brook trout. As mentioned in the video fishing is the primary purpose of the trip, thus the amount of gear is much more than a casual angler might haul into the park. Nevertheless this may give some of you a few ideas!

Informative video, thanks for the tips. Quick question. Have you ever gone fishing on Whitefish Lake in Algonquin? I-m in on splitting the lease costs with family friends and go up there as much as I can, since I was a little kid. I-m more of a bass/ pike fishermen but want to get on more trout fishing especially in Algonquin. Have you had much luck on that lake or Rock lake for brook trout? Or surrounding area lakes. Someone told me Pen lake and Pen lake portage is good. Caught a nice 21- largemouth bass on Whitefish this fall but only ever one brook trout. Don-t target them much though. Any thoughts? Thanks

Another awesome informative video Mike. Thanks for posting. I was wondering if I could ask you a little bit more about perch in the Algonquin lakes. I have read and heard from some people that when the perch are in lakes the brook trout fishing is terrible. I just got back from a trip where I bushwhacked into a back lake in hopes of some big brookies and all I caught were perch. 100's of them all over the lake. Is there ever a time when you start catching perch in lakes and just know that there will not be brook trout or do you see perch a s a good sign? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Enjoyed your insights. Why do you prefer mono for specs?
I'm the same--much more fishing gear than one would normally bring, though as a soloist I narrow it down to two rods per trip. Also, I started using a backpack this year to carry my tackle, and that's been advantageous on portages.
Currently looking into getting a couple of lightweight rod/reel cases because I'm tired of my rods snagging on branches and such on the trails---not to mention the potential of damaging them. Have you ever taken this approach?

I can't really add to all the things others have said. Mike, for me as an older guy (almost 64) who is trying to learn and never had a dad to teach me, you do not know how valuable or priceless some of this information is. And I know in this day when there are too many careless and ungrateful people, there are those like me who depend on you to learn. Otherwise, how do we do it? Thanks again!

I like the idea of a spoon with a worm trailing on a leader. I don't think the tackle looks excessive. In fact, I would add a fly rod and a box of flies but that's me. I would imagine your son is about ready to jump out of his skin in anticipation. At his age, I used to get so jacked up for fishing trips that I couldn't sleep for a week before we left.

Hi, thanks for showing your tackle selection and accessories. like you I'd rather cover all my bases than be skunked out in the middle of no where with very little choices. you never know, they could be hitting a copper color lure and all you have is an orange one. my question is have you ever tried using rubber worms instead of live ones?

Hey, you're the guy I read in the papers. And for that guy trying to seek out your location through The MNR. What a completely lazy tool. PPl these days, just want things givin' for free without working for it. SMDH.

Nice video can you do one and show what tackle you bring to a fly in trip like great slave great bear or lake athabasca trip that would be very helpful as you are always dealing with weight limits thank you

Fantastic resource! Thank you for sharing. Most anglers don't. Its interesting how you mentioned how unknown those Weavers are. I've never seen or heard of them, and they are made 14 miles from my home!

Going into lady evelyn for a few weeks once the ice is out. was hoping you could elaborate on your worm bedding technique as I would love to keep mine alive for the duration of the trip!
