The average width of the Crowsnest, in Alberta, is less than 50 feet. This is an ideal river to wade fish. Host Phil Rowley and guest Vic Bergman from the Crowsnest Angler provide information on tactics, equipment and flies to successful tackle freestone streams in the fall

Phil displays unbelievably bad trout handling: The first trout caught (thought to be a 16-inch rainbow) was held out of the water for over a minute from 4: 20 until 5: 30. By -out of the water, - I mean that the animal's mouth and gills were in such a position that he couldn't breathe. In experiments, that has resulted in a very high mortality rate. Performers on this show obviously are well-intended release anglers, but the long displays of fish while chatting and gawking are incompatible with successful release. Phil, you and the other show hosts are certainly capable of fast, efficient releases and still having an entertaining programme. Displaying proper techniques for release is more important than displaying trout for lengthy periods of time.

I'm seeing lots of positive comments of fly shop owners. I can tell you that asking an adult to take a 13 year old seriously when talking about fly fishing isnt easy. my dad doesnt even fish but they would look at my dad when talking about stuff while i look at flies. it wasnt until i was an adult (18) until someone would tell me stuff instead of my dad. I got my first fly rod when I was 12 and im 19 now and still love it. damn did I feel disrespected trying to learn more from experienced anglers though.

What a wonderful surprise! My husband was watching the video for the first time today and couldn't believe who he saw, our dear Luke aka #Lukethepoop. It made our day. Luke was sitting in the driver's seat of our car in downtown Bellevue when the video was taken. He was always a camera ham. Luke passed a while back, it was wonderful to see him. Thanks for having him in you video. He was at about 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the video.

If you hit the crow, go in and talk to Vic, hell of a nice guy. Or check out the other shop and talk to Sue, or Al and Winston the retriever. Sue and Al's place have killer breakfast burritos. the right call is hitting up both places as they both deserve the anglers support. As the case with most fish shops, they're run by some cool people.

I know this vid is old, but I'm curious that the fish are (seasonably) thin looking for their length; maybe it's just the camera angle. Also, Canada only allows one fly on the line as far as I know. Sounds like I need to plan a trip to Alberta when things open up!

I'm 90% sure I was in this shop last year during a camping trip to West Castle. Vic set me up with some flies, some floatant, and advice on casting. Great guy and I can't wait to give the Crowsnest river a try this fall.
