On this episode of LakeForkGuy Fishing TV, we are heading to the streams and rivers or New York around the shores of Lake Erie to experience fishing for steelhead trout for the first time. The area we are fishing is part of an Indian reservation, known for its good fishing in the fall and winter when the fish run from the deep cool waters of Lake Erie and up into the tributary streams to spawn and feed. These steelhead are unlike the western steelhead trout and salmon that live in the ocean and migrate into the same streams where they were born later in life. These lake steelhead trout are stocked by the state wildlife and fish commission and placed into the stream as fingerlings to eventually travel back and forth between lake and river to keep up the great fishing experince. We are using fly fishing and light spinning tackle equipment to cast repetitively to rocks and eddies in the water that the trout are hiding in. The cold water and currents allow these fish plenty of oxygen to make powerful runs and long fights on the rod and reel. The water is also very clear, making it nearly impossible to get a bite on heavy fishing line. All the equipment is light and finesse in order to catch the trout. As a first time beginner at fly fishing for trout and wading cold water streams, I show you how to approach catching these fish from the experienced anglers I am with. You can learn from my mistakes and experience what fishing for these steelhead trout is like without having to get waist deep in very cold water! Shout out to NICK and TJ for the great drone and photography Special thanks to Landon and Jeff for the how-to tips and techniques

gotta be generous with keeping em suckin in the water for their oxy. sometimes theyll stay retarded for 3 minutes or more lol just sayin. and this is a HUUUUGELY amazing and absolutely an 80ft jump for a first time fly flicker lol i mean youre definitely lucky to have great ppl w ya because im self taught, and learned w a crappy rod n reel with a dry fly gettin on some bluegill (sunnies is what me n my fishin buddies in central NJ call em) which is absolutely fun as hell because theyre ridiculously abundant in my seekurt (secret) streams, lakes, and ponds.
but hey LFG, good shit for a gnawviss lol (novice; gotta put the correct spelling so the party poopers dont try n ruin my fun haha)
KEEP EM COMIN! I WANNA SEE YOU DO MORE FLYCKIN! (fly fishing)
; ) sry about the length

I watch all your vids. You and lunkers inspired me to make the video on my page, huge brown I caught about a hour away from that trib. My love for your vids just skyrocketed after seeing you visit WNY. Many people overlook our fisheries. If you EVER wanna come back to WNY and get on some fish, would be happy to take you, and extend my house as a place to stay if needed. Come back soon! And I seen some comment that are correct, Niagara is crazy during spring for the smallies lol. God bless LFG

I love the idea of trout fishing the atmosphere the water, its different. But I fail miserably at it. My youngest brother seems to catch trout all day. Now here in Oklahoma the trout streams are stocked so that has to be allocated for, but they stock at least once a week. so I just have learned the secret to catching these fish. You have any ideas, man I am listening. get well Justin.

You're going to drive yourself crazy thinking about Steelhead, I feel bad for my Wife haha poor woman has to hear Me talk about them all year Long. Glad you got to experience the Silver Bullets. Gotta get used to the Cold though my man! We have a lot of Fair weather people around here. It gets even better when the water freezes on your Line when you're reeling it in.

I dont know how they do it either as far as a bite. I guess I am bass, catfish and crappie oriented for a bite and know nothing of a trout bite. AND NO ONE WILL TELL ME. but I will get it eventually.

I just bought a fly rod and it is artistic but I like it. Youre kind of like a cowboy reeling in a Bull(Trout) whipping that whip all over the atmosphere Lol but i am digging it
