I'm backpacking a few miles from my house to the lake to go catching at night! These outdoor trails are thick woods and contain a lot of wildlife. The big question is are there any catfish down there? In this fishing video I show you how to rig up for fishing catfish with stink bait. I will also show you how I rig my backpack for lightweight trail running or hiking while supplies for fishing at night

lol Your not asking for much. When you want me to suggest my secret catfish recipe.
Good effort tho.
Clean the fish is a must have. rinse the fish thoroughly. I go overboard playing the fillet like an accordion under running water forcefully excreting oils and slime. cant stress enough the most important thing in a great fish is how it is rinsed. excluding crappie from the ice.
fish like northern i rinse average 6 times over 2 days. a catfish twice for smoking three times for frying a fourth time wouldn't hurt for boiling. soaking in refrigerated saltwater or plain milk respectfully in between the rinses. milk works great from removing the slime from horrendously slimy fish like norther. I remember reading it collapses the capillary's. not sure if that's why but it works if rinsed thoroughly with water and repeated.
Its not far from shore lunch original to be honest. but i use potatoechips and saltines. crushed with a rollpin in a ziplock. ton of onion powder. other common seasonings including lemon pepper, cayenne pepper and lawreys seasoning salt.
pan fry half covered in oil flip once. about 6min a side. 400-415F
The rest is just a secret and always will be. Goodluck
If your preparing for the exquisite. Soak the fillet in milk over night after you have skillfully removed the bloodline/mudline.
You can try adding cilantro if that is your thing.

Hey Jason if you do more night fishing on the bank for cats you should the glow sticks that clip to the end of your rod. They work great my fishing buddy Tyler and I use to go to Smithville late at night and we used them and even got some with bells on them so if we had multiple rods we didnt have to worry about missing a bite. I love these kind of shows and wish I lived closer because I would go night fishing for cats all the time.

I fish for catfish like this from time to time. I use liver or a big ball of worms though. Or if I'm going for carp I'll use corn. But last time i fished like this i was at a river and a 10lbs carp almost stole my rod lol

The insects in the bottoms of those cone shaped holes are called ant lions. As kids we would drop ants in the holes and watch the ant lions throw sand to knock the ant to the bottom. I know pretty sick lol.

I heard Rob talking about Smith Mountain lake In Virginia. Their. Is another lake to. Phil pot lake. It was built by the Army core of engineers. I've fished both and bass is the fish of choice.

Man! Are you hipper or what! You are talking too much is why you forgot to lance the skin. If you had done so would have prevented the fish from curling up. Tone it down a notch.

Next time cut out the mud vain that runs down the middle of the filets. It's the dark red shit that usually don't taste good. Helps out a lot with the the taste!

Lake Fork Guy, you should fasten a bell on the tip of the rod so you can hear it when the catfish bites and the rod tip bends.
