I found some great wood inside of this old Texas ranch house that I'm going to use to make a reclaimed wood table and desk for the fishing cave Mitchell: I am sure that the comments before about the MKT 87 being apart of the railroad system is correct. Upon deeper research I also found out that the MKT railroad is also why we have the Katy freeway in Houston. Stemming from the old KT Stock Exchange abriviation, the railroad, nicknamed The Katy reached as far south as Galveston and as far north as Hannibal, and St. Louis Missouri. I'd add caution just as the previous viewers have commented because the wood was coated and soaked in Creosote. Love the Videos OSG is looking like a happy future momma! My wife and I are hoping to have our first in the coming years. God Bless and Fish On Brother!

I'm actually an experienced woodworker and Lumber inspector at one of the largest Hard wood distribution company in North America I deal with Walnut and you might look into the NHLA and you might find some answers I can tell you that the markings you found we're probably put there by whoever was selling the lumber for sorting purposes most small lumber yards do similar things today if you have any questions feel free to contact me

So the initials aren't for wood species a lot of old lumber mills would have large orders to fulfill and they would put clients initials in the end of the wood to keep inventory. You were definitely right on the S as well, lumber wasn't treated like it is now days and would dry out and split very quickly and make beams or post unsafe for support.

Hey LFG, those are old railroad ties. SPC is South Pacific Coast Railroad. it existed till 1887. They replaced their smaller ties with larger ones when they converted to standard gauge track. The MKT Katy is from the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. 1870-1988(tracks ran through the DFW area. 98% sure on this. Good find.

Please make sure OSG does not go near that wood until you disinfect it. The bacteria from old bird droppings and rodent feces is especially dangerous for a pregnant woman. For you also LFG, you're still mending from the Willis adventure. (Just an old medic looking out for you)
Love you guys! Take care!

Woodworking has been one of the most fun things I have gotten into since purchasing my first casa. There is something special about putting in the elbow grease and time into those projects that you just cant get from other DIY projects. Excited to see how the desk and tables turn out!

Your jinxing yourself again. a while ago when you ate that catfish on a livestream you said many things from that lake get cancer. then a few weeks later Willis came along. Now your using haunted wood in your house. good luck! Just kidding good luck with the baby!

The letters and numbers could possibly be markings to let builders know what beams go together and where they should go. Kinda like Legos in a way. I dont know for sure but thats my guess. If not, theyre most likely railroad ties based off the size of them.

Getting those old beams re-sawn into planks to work with will be well worth it! From experience that old wood will be so hard. I was using nails on some and had to drill pilot holes and wet the nails down with dish soap.
