Here is the info for you victor on sharks. Sharks like all vertebrates, excrete waste products through their urinary system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. While it is true that some marine animals, such as hagfish and lampreys, excrete waste products through their skin, sharks do not have this ability. Sharks, like all marine animals, face unique challenges when it comes to maintaining their internal environment. One of the most significant challenges is osmoregulation, which refers to the regulation of water and salt balance within the body. Marine animals must constantly balance the concentration of salts and other solutes in their bodies with the surrounding seawater. Failure to do so can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and other health problems. Sharks use their gills not only to breathe, but also to regulate their salt and water balance. As water flows over the gills, sharks actively transport salt and other solutes from the surrounding seawater into their bodies, while excreting excess water and waste products. This process, known as active transport, requires energy and is regulated by hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone.

Always strange that a fish which can be caught in quantity is considered a rubbish fish like these guys, they know it a great tasting fish but they have been brainwashed into thinking that it there is something wrong with it. In the Islands of Kiribati they consider Rays a rubbish fish, two of my I Kiribati friends were given a piece of fried Stingray each and they ate it all. Afterwards they were told what it was and they said on every beach in Kiribati there are thousands of Rays. They went back to their Island and started catching Stingrays to eat. In New Zealand and Australia shark is eaten all they time.

Up here on the East Coast fisherman have their heads up there azz and keep repeating the meat is full of urine. Two of those guys kept saying it. These guys likely have had shark that wasn't properly broken down and stored. The ammonia-like taste ONLY happens when the meat sits in the heat and starts breaking down. Fresh prepared and properly chilled shark has no strong flavor. Up here on the East Coast theres really only two opinions, people either think the meat tastes mild or they think it tastes like road-kill and only 1 of those groups go into the taste with an unbiased preconception.

I have had both warm water spiny lobster down in Florida and cold water lobster with the claws up here in New England. Hands down the cold water is a much better tasting lobster. I have never seasoned it with anything when cooking it fresh in the shell steamed or grilled, then just dip the meat in drawn butter. The warm water lobster is definitely better with some mild seasoning because the meat isn't as sweet.

Mako, Thresher, and Great White sharks actually have urinary tracts and are the only 3 species of shark that don’t pee through their skin. Also the other sharks don’t pee through their skin, they actually covert it to urea and store it in their bloodstream and then expel through their gills or skin so to not offset their water levels in their bloodstream.

Great fishing & footage. shark is great eating & very popular here in Australia especially in our southern states it's sold fresh in fish markets & fish/chip shops l have eaten it many times simply just battered & fried with a sprinkle of sea salt.
Aussies have been eating shark since the 1920s & was originally sold as flake & now boneless fillet.

I fished for sharks in San Diego and never ate blue shark and we caught a lot of blues, however i was told to clean the blue shark to fillets and wrap them in a towel and refridgerate overnight and the towel will absorb the uric acid and that makes the blue shark taste better. We mainly were after mako and thresher sharks.

Nurse shark is best fried in little 1-inch x 1-inch cubes. we call them shark bites. The frier knocks any nasty flavor out and makes it real firm on the inside with a crunchy outside. I recommend trying it fried. It works good on lemon sharks but that was back when you used to be able to keep them here in Florida

Once again, you guys are s. Sharks already got a hook and a few feet of heavy leader in its mouth, so you cut it off and leave a 2nd hook and another 3ft of leader hanging outta this poor bastards mouth. Use a gaff as a hook remover, its not hard and you never have to get close to the mouth. Be better anglers.

Blue Shark, absolute trash fish. Too bad you didn't get the opportunity to catch & cook a Thresher. Besides a Blackfish, Thresher is THEE most tasty fish in the ocean. Like the most juiciest char broiled pork chop you ever had.
reply

Vic they call it a trash fish because it is a trash fish srry bud I normally agree with you but blue shark and nurse shark are no goes for me. Mako black tip and threshers are a yes but the rest I'ma have to say no

I wonder if a high heat cook, like under a broiler or one of those super high heat steak cookers, would tighten it up some. Texture and mouth feel can put people off of a perfectly good food of many types.

I believe the dirt on the skin is actually ink from squid. At least that’s what it is on swordfish. Not sure if squid is apart of these sharks diet but wouldn’t be surprised if it is indeed ink from squid.

Bluedogs are useless lol they fight like an old boot, not good to eat, just a waste of expensive tackle, Victor you are a maniac lol they usually smell like about you always no matter what you do to them
reply

It's crazy y'all only caught 2 sharks in a day. In NC or FL u could catch all you wanted pretty much anywhere u want. It's amazing how many sharks are down south. We need to start harvesting more of them
reply

Big difference between makos and blues on terms of a fight. Those blues are like reeling in a 200lb log. Those makos are like reeling in a meth head. Too bad we can't keep the makos anymore.
reply

So how I have cooked it is crush corn flakes up soak the steaks in salt water over nite. Then coat it in crushed corn flakes and bake it comes out pretty good fixes the jelitan problem.
reply

Next time try frying your shark, but you must season it properly preferably Bahamian style with fresh herbs. Also to get rid of that sometime ammonia smell try soaking it in milk.
reply

If you catch a Mako that jumps 15 feet, that is the best part of shark fishing in the Northeast! Cant keep Makos right now. Just threshers and Porbeagle
reply

Never cooked a lobster like that before, might have to try that next time. Normally I pull the meat out and place it ontop of the shell and cook like that.
