I have had problems with braided line. spiderwire is the line I am using. but when I tried to pull the line to test my drag the line spins around the spool without the drag moving. I thought maybe the line was not tight enough around the spool, so I took it off and respond it tighter and after a few uses the line does it again. Was wondering if you had any problems like this or suggested how to fix it

Do not forget to warn people about braided line's ability to cut people far worse than monofilament. We old school Cuban yoyo fishermen accustomed to dragging monsters out of bridge /reef/oyster structure with 100# mono know about line cuts as anyone else knows what a drag line cuts can be; but braid is another story; it's a lot more dangerous to work around.

This is very small diameter, very slick line>>>allabout. wiki/y43x This line isn't for everyone. It requires the knowledge of how to tie the required knots to use this line correctly. That given, this small diameter line gives you maximum line capacity and great casting distance. This is the perfect line for my fishing applications. Love it!

Thank you for the information. Im starting to use conventional reels for surf fishing and I want to get some distance. Im getting a lot of mixed answered. Like using suffix titanium plus and 30-50 yard top shot of braid. I see people spool a whole reel with braid for distance also. If you have any extra information that would be great.

Im looking at going the best of both worlds - dacron blend braids. The superlines are to small cut into itself on spools even when i tape the spool and for my purpose, salmon fishing in tidewater and rivers, i dont need anything over 40 lb breaking strength. Plus i like a little stretch in my line.

The truth is mono is good for a one time use becouse it stretches and tangles easily.
Braid holds its strength becouse it doesn't stretch and it hardly ever gets tangled.
Note braid costs more than mono

I was surprised to learn that braid is not as abrasion resistant as mono, which was one of the main reasons I used it. Other than casting distance mono sounds much better to me now for snook fishing from shore.

In South america a lot of people just use 40+ lbs monofilament on handlines from the rocks and catch all sizes of fish with natural baits, fishing shows in the USA is just commercials for all kinds of gimmicks

Hi, i fish in sweden after atlantic Salmon in saltwater sea! Do not fish in freshwater. I have a shimano ultegra 5000 reel. Should i use mono or braid? What is best to use to get more salmon fish?
reply

You left out that braid is harder to tie than mono, which means if you are fishing with someone who doesn't know how (wife & kids) then you will end up having to do it for them.
