In this episode we're mothershipping the kayaks to a new area called Chester's Rock, where Jeff explains how we'll be working giant, weedless swimbaits for a voracious predator among the kelp forests: calico bass, or kelp bass. These fish launch ambush attacks from the kelp stalks, resulting in explosive surface strikes that have us giggling like schoolgirls

Exciting to fish the kelp in a Kayak! Its on my bucket list!
I like to fish light extra fast rods such a 76 Phenix inshore assassin maybe 10-25#s with a Revo Beast, 50# braid/20# Fluoro top-shot.
If im not swimming a 5 big hammer on a 3/4oz lead head, I like dropping a rootbeer jerk shad or fluke on a 1/4 to 3/8 dart head or something similar soaked in procure calico cocktail straight down into the kelp or between strands!

Another Awesome adventure with you and the boys of Fish Village! So do you or any of the guys from Fish Village actually show up on the trips to Cedros? I see on Jeffs website he has certain trips set aside for Fish Village. Oh and which is best to fly into to go? San Diego or LA?

Thanks Robert. This these are excellent and well put together videos of Cedros Island. Just one question: Where exactly is Chester's Rock? I thought you mentioned it was on/by the mainland. Is it on Isla Natividad? or Islas de San Benito? or on Cedros? Thanks.

Just a heads up Chesters is an easy access from shore and an easy launch. There are a LOT of places like this S. of Punta Eugenia for several hundred miles some with close deep water access

Rob, calicos are so much fun on light gear, my calico set up is a 12-30lb swimbait rod with 15lb mono on 40lb braid on an okuma komodo ss rh. Its so much fun

I love that sometimes it is like that in California people never think that California has crazy good fishing like this you just gotta know where to go
