Fractal Meshify 2 Case Review: Thermals, Build Quality, & Airflow Benchmarks

Fractal Design's brand new Meshify 2 case is not the same as the S2 Meshify! This 140-ish airflow-oriented Meshify 2 is in for review, thermals, acoustics, and more. In thie review, we're benchmarking Fractal Design's Meshify 2 vs. the Meshify C, Define S2 Meshify, Define R6, Define 7, and plenty of competitors, like the Cooler Master TD500, H500, be quiet! 500DX, Phanteks P400A, and more. There are a lot of high-performing airflow cases in the sub- 150 market right now, so Fractal is launching into a fiercely contested product category -- but this is a strong warning shot to competitors nearby. Our benchmarks show an objective look at thermal performance, acoustics, noise-normalized thermals, build quality, cable management, and more. This gives us a good look at some of the best cases for PC gaming builds right now, especially budget PC builds that might be targeting the lower-end cases, because the Meshify 2 helps set an upper bound of what more money gets you. Hans: The large HDD capacity makes this a very interesting case for DIY NAS builds I think. I'm looking to build a new TrueNAS system soon with about 8 HDDs and the way the HDDs are positioned will give them good airflow. Perfect fit for 8 HDDs in the top part of the case and some SSDs also at the bottom of back. Also the extensive filtering should make this a good option for a home server that you probably won't clean as often as a PC.
Very cool.

Addressing the DROP ad I want to issue a warning to non-Americans: IMO it's not worth the risk of ordering from them. You can get hit with massive shipping, duties, and taxes, and the worst of all - DHL brokerage fees. If you're in Europe it can also take over a month for your in stock product to arrive. If you have to do a return YOU have to pay to ship the item back outside America.
The hd6xx for instance might seam like a steal of a headphone but after you're hit with all these fees it could well end up costing just as much, or more, than the HD 650 it's based on and take 6 weeks to arrive. Buy with caution.

Looks like a good case overall, they definitely have made some improvements to the Meshify C. Having built a custom water loop in a Meshify C I will say that it's a bit too small. I had to get creative and modify the reservoir mount to mount it horizontally onto of my rear fan which works and looks cool but makes it so I have to keep my loop basically filled to the brim which makes changing the fluid a little butt-clenching. The Meshify 2 seems like it would have ample room for a pump and reservoir. Also the front panel dangling from the I/O wire harness is incredibly frustrating.

I bought the Meshify S2 for my new PC when the Ryzen 3900X came out and completely neglected that it doesn't have a space for my BD-R drive, which I wasn't willing to part with.
So I put my old PC into the Meshify and my new one in the extra-heavy Define XL that my old PC used to occupy.
I absolutely hated working around the PSU shroud. They might look better for an open system, but I will know to avoid them in the future.

(yells out loud) : Just make these cases wider, so we can actually use and display our GPU's...and have it breath enough fresh cool air at the same time..... its not rocket science......
Edit: as a alternative solution....in the meantime... how about a perforated section in the glass, where the GPU is located... its a rush solution... but id take it. Make such sidepanels available! :P

I feel that Fractal's charging a bit much for this.
If you go down the line, it's a bunch of re-re-refreshes with a minor change here or there.
I can't fault them for using the same design; it's tried and true, but when much of the tooling and functions are the same from previous gens, what's to stop people from looking to more affordable, and just as good alternatives?

140... yikes! No enclosure for PC parts should ever cost more than 80 without offering something significantly unique and by unique I mean a feature that's actually handy in a use-case scenario, instead of overdesigned latches and pop-out panels and what not. It's like I'm paying a price premium for a case that doesn't light up like a cyberpunk discoteque out of the box...

I know this is completely off topic. However, what is going on with Userbenckmark scores? I've watched your reviews of EVERY new Ryzen 5000 products and it seems to win in the majority of situations. But when I look at UserBenchmark it has the Intel 10 series as the best CPU's. I've watch several other reviews and they mostly concur with GN. How can this happen?

I might need to see what the XL size looks like, as I'm in a 760T right now and just have enough clearance for my ND-D15 cooler. Finally though! I've been looking for a case that better fits my asthetic for a while now and the Meshify C always interested me but was way too small for what I use it for.
Looks like I know what I'm asking for for Christmas this year!

I still have to mention, Define 7 may be hotter but still offers very good noise cancellation. Define 7 also has better I/O. Which you always fail to mention for some reason.
Fractal has a huge advantage when it comes to I/O offering more usb ports than most others. You always overlook this. PC Cases aren't all about performance and airflow.
