We benchmarked & reviewed AMD's new R5 3600 Ryzen CPU to test performance in games, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Blender, compression, & more. Ad: Buy Gigabyte's X570 Master on Amazon NEW RYZEN CPU LISTINGS: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (Amazon): AMD Ryzen 5 3600X (Amazon): AMD Ryzen 9 3900X (Amazon): AMD Ryzen 7 3800X (Amazon): AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (Amazon): AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (Amazon): AMD Ryzen 3 3200G (Amazon): Or grab an affordable R7 2700X or R7 2700 Intel's i9-9900K (Amazon): In this review of AMD's new Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, we look at the remainder of Intel's i5 lineup -- primarily composed of the i5-9600K -- and run generational benchmarks versus AMD's older R5 2600/2600X and R5 1600 CPUs. All modern CPUs on the chart also have overclock numbers accompanying them. Memory was 3200MHz CL14 with manually configured secondary and tertiary timings for all bench platforms, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. 3200MHz is the highest frequency that works on everything we benchmarked in this list, allowing us to control a variable while still using a reasonable memory speed. We'll do separate benchmarking on memory scaling. In the meantime, this benchmark tests the AMD R5 3600 for power consumption, Blender performance, Premiere, Photoshop, 7-Zip, V-Ray, GCC code compiling, and more, alongside gaming benchmarks versus Intel. Our reviews of the AMD R9 3900X, R7 3700X, AMD RX 5700 XT, and AMD RX 5700 are forthcoming or have already been published, depending on when you check this video. Be sure to check back regularly to catch all of the reviews -- they're mostly done! AMD vs. Intel 2019 has officially started. We have GN store:

i got a 3600 a couple weeks ago. it was a HUGE upgrade from the FX-8350 i had been using for several years. well, im using the stock cooler and its so hot. just using youtube, it averages 51. 6c. its seen 67. 3c as a max, again, just sitting here using youtube for about 3hrs or so since i turned it on today. i dont get it. my fx-8350 ran super cool for some reason. when i would game with the old 8350, i was only seeing 65c or so. never saw 70, ever. this 3600 has seen 75c several times, barely even doing anything. i really dont get it. im gonna try a liquid cooler, i guess. i dont know. maybe a cheap gammaxx 400 air cooler will help, but i really dont know. either way, the high temps really bother me. im using an asrock phantom gaming 4 mobo and geil evo spear 2x8gb sticks. gpu right now is just a rx580 8gb red devil i had sitting around. again, i dont get it.

For the Compile benchmarks, building Mozilla would be an excellent test - Mozilla build times are strongly CPU bound; currently I use an Intel 7920 14/28-core and it takes around 18+ minutes (on Linux; typically Windows builds are considerably slower, but I don't have both OSes on the same machine. Note that Mozilla defaults to clang (including on Windows, but can still build with GCC on linux (though I'm not sure if that works on Windows; we moved from MSVC to clang last year on Windows. If you do a normal opt build, almost all the compile is 100% on all threads. If you do a release or profiling build, it has to do a long single-threaded LTO pass that adds around 5 minutes (on the 7920. Ryzen 3900x will be a strong option for us for desktop build machines going forward. Contact me if you want any tips on how to set up a test using Mozilla

Would it be worth upgrading from the 2600 to the 3600? I've been editing with 4k footage lately, even though i still render at 1080, and i've noticed my computer starting to struggle with it. So i'm wondering if goin from the 2600 to the 3600 would be enough of an upgrade to at least ease the workload, or if i would need to jump up to the 3700? I'd also be going from an RX580 to the 1660 Ti. Ram would go from 3200 to 3600 as well for the build, 2x8gb. I'm trying to stay just under 1k, but also don't want to make these efforts pointless.

Hello Im running x plane 11. 41 on a new computer. My pc is brand new zortac gforce RTX 2060 super 8192mb Gddr Graphics AMD Ryzon 5 3600 6 core/ 12 thread tray Vulcan Tforce 16gb (2x8gb) DDR4 if I put my Processor in gaming mode through the AMD Ryzen master will it boost the games and Graphics performance when using VR? (Oculas Rift S) As its not performing all that good at the moment Do you have any links for tutorials so i can set my system to the best performance? Thanks in Advance Maurice

Hey guys i know its late but, do you think it would be a good idea to build a ryzen 2400g system (or r5 1600) for my gf as she has a i5 2400 right now and she is a arhitecture student (i had already bought her a quadro k2200 for now and she says she has no problems running all of the programs Autocad and adobe package) or would it be a better idea to buy a r5 3600 for myself as I have r5 2600 now and gave my old processor to her? Thank you

It's a great chip to be sure, but it's definitely not the Intel killer the fanboys have been touting. the 9600k outperformed the 3600 at stock speeds and overclocked. Only if you're using a 6/7th gen or lower Intel cpu, will you get beat out by AMD. Even the i5 9400f keeps up with the r5 3600. Productivity, sure AMD takes the win, but if you're doing production, you never considered an intel cpu in the first place.

Is there anybody here now? i am thinking between 3600(200 euro) and 2700(150 euro) which one is better for gaming in 1440p with a 5700? on the long run the 8 core can have the same advantage as the 6 has the advantage now ower the 4 core intel processors or the IPC and clock advantages make it better and worth the extra 30% price in this case? Mobo B450 tomahawk good be quiet cooler so only perf is what metters.

When are you going to start talking about the insane amount of people having issues with idle voltage and WHEA BSOD issues for both AMD and Nvidia cards- no one on YT is mentioning all these glaring launch issues meanwhile Reddit is on fire. Robert from AMD and Manuel from Nvidia have started posts and surveys to try and fix all these issues that are keeping us from even using our new chips

one of the best reviews ever on the 3600. I tend to go with Intel by default but seeing these results, it's a no-brainer, at least in the 3600 price range. True the 9600k does better in gaming, but the 3600 is such a great value and equals the 9700k in benchmarks, that the 9600k becomes irrelevant. I just wish AMD's cpus could boost as well in freq as Intel, then AMD would dominate.

There are 2 types of people who watch Gamers Nexus (GN. 1: People who know what GN is talking about, and appreciate the straight forward, scientific analysis and reviews. 2: The people who don't know what GN is talking about, but pretend to and feel smarter for making it through to the end without saying, I have no idea what those guys were talking about. I'm number 2: )
