NVIDIA Cancels the RTX 4080 12GB After Backlash
video description
At announcement, I said Nvidia would have to severely limit volume, given how badly it was received.
That 899 pricing was merely a ploy by Nvidia to get people to run out and buy up all the leftover RTX3000 series.
Put 4080-12 out there at exorbitant pricing...people see it competing in rasterization almost on par with a cheaper RTX3090 and 3090Ti would immediately jump on those cards.
The fact those upper RTX3000 series cards have not dropped as low as Nvidia expected, coupled with the bad press of this card is what is partially causing this 'unreleasing'.
There may be other outside factors as well.
Federal regulations surrounding product advertising may also be in play.
Imagine the cost to unpackage millions of cards and destroy that packaging.
Nvidia is not now...and never will be the good guy....neither is AMD.

I mean this is a pyrrhic victory at best because they are not lowering the price of the 4080. A 500 price hike for the xx80 series from 700 to 1200 is horrible. And now 1200 is the minimum entry point for the 4000 series and DLSS3 for the forseeable future, LOL. And then they'll just delay this 4070 relaunch till their 3000 series overstock sells through... so no sweat off their back on their gross strategy of manipulating prices to keep the 3000 series at current prices (3090/ti 900-1100, 3080/ti 700-800) till they get rid of it and just layering 4000 series on top till then. They can't release a cheaper 4070 into that now which matches the 3090 for lower than 900 because then that ruins their entire pricing stack.. so they won't thus they just canceled it for now instead of just lowering the price.
So we'll have nothing at a reasonable price range for another probably like 4+ months while they sell us still overpriced 3000 series and the xx80 series now officially costs an insane 1200. I won't call that a victory . At this point only AMD can save things but I doubt they will.

The lines around the block is not because its an amazing card, its because you and your retailers are not able to sell these cards to the right people, so you literally have to line up at 3 am to get a card so that it does not go to a scalper with a bot. I couldnt believe Microcenter didnt even save a few cards for people who wanted to buy complete gaming systems - alot of greed going on in this launch, and I get it, everyone wants to make money. But with the sour taste of the 30-series launch still in our mouths, surprisingly it feels like they didnt learn anything on this one.

If the 4070 (previously 4080 12gb) costs more than 550 and the 4080 16gb more than 750 (MSRP for both), they should just quit.
The 4090 costs 2.400-2.700 here in Greece (not the FE cards), that's fcking ridiculous. If the 4070 and 4080 are similarly overpriced, I will stay with my GTX 970 for another generation.
Good thing that I only play Genshin right now, and I will continue to play it until its story ends some time in the next 6-7 years, so no new card is required for me. These fckers will not get money from me until the prices start making sense again.

What this means for me: If at all possible, I won't buy GPUs from nvidia in the future. My last two Gpus were nvidia but second hand (currently 2080ti) because I enjoy VR with a Quest 2 and nvenc has better quality/performance for streaming the game over USB-C to the headset. Which is a very niche thing, but important to me. As soon as AMD or Intel (oO) improves their game in that area I will stop using nvidia products completely.
Unless! They make a good, power efficient product with adequate power for max 500 .

The lack of sincere apology sorta defines what makes whatever end result rotten.
Corsair: 1)Screwed up? yes. 2)apologized? yes. 3)Informed us how they plan to prevent this in the future? yes.
Verdict: Great!
Nvidia: 1)Screwed up? yes. 2)apologized? Not really. 3)Informed us how they plan to prevent this in the future? HAHAHAHAHAH. We just hope you'll forget about this until next time. 4)Used it as a transparent attempt to market their other products? yes.
Verdict: Cynical greedy losers.

Wouldn't it be easier to ship it as Asis only limited run or sell those to system integrators?
P.S.: now the question is: do they stick with their MSRP for the 4080 16GB? Because the only reason that price made even remotely sense was with the 12GB version being slightly below the (inflation corrected) prices of a xx80 card and the 16GB card closed the gap towards the 4090. Now without the 12GB version, the (only remaining) 4080 is just ridiculously overpriced.

Acknowledging that they did something good is giving them credit for trying to dupe customers in the first place, and only corrected course when most likely a legal team informed them yeah you are going to get class action sued over this when people buy 4080 12G and realize it was not the same card with just less RAM . They can and will do whatever they want to do when they can get away with it, sort of like how a criminal only feels remorse AFTER they get caught.

Fantastic news, now all we need is for AMD to release there cards at much more conservative prices, and have Nvidia realise that this year on year price increase for a flagship card, will eventually price its own customers out of the market. Consoles have never looked so good, as soon as they have a little more graphical horsepower under the hood, it will really bring to question what the benefit of over priced PC is all about regarding gaming.

I think changing the name and dropping the price lower will be enough, assuming they don't cut features/performance.
That said, this is a big screwup and NVIDIA just doesn't seem to be able to learn from its mistakes since they tend to repeat them. It looks like EVGA got out just in time. So many people at NVIDIA's partners will lose their sleep over the next couple of months.

Kinda curious what the dimensions of the 4080 12gb (or well will be probably 4070 ti) and mostly the price of it. Although my 2070 (non-super) is still running fine on my main rig, I could then swap it out and give my brother a better gpu (as he's still using my old 1050 ti). Just depends on the price of the card and also if the card is a little smaller than the 4090 behemoth.

Nvidia just got positive press...tons of free, high visual, press and has doubled it's narrative input by NOT MAKING SOMETHING....it got all this free real-estate for the entire cost of some photoshop and an email..c'mon people, surely you can see this. Nvidia are one of the smartest marketing organisations in the world, they didn't make a mistake here, they played it beautifully.

RTX 3080 10 GB VRAM was a mistake, now they trying to sell a 4070 12GB with a fake 4080 12GB name.. with 900 Lol
U know this comapny is BS everyone with their cut-version
Even AMD Sold normal RX 6800 (non-XT) whioch have around 3070ti level with 16GB
I'll kepp my 6800XT & wait for 2024, that beefy 16GB VRAM will keep any 4K game Textures at ultra for years

What most of us not realize is that they made the XX80 tier a 1,199 gpu. We all got played into accepting what has to be the real goal, which was to get you to be ok with that level ( 1,199) of pricing, You just gave them a blank check to charge more. I have to say that if my hunch is correct, it's a genius move on their part and a failure on our part if we accept it.

Great video thank you :). I will be honest I have always liked nVidia cards. But, with everything that is happening now and seems to be continually happening. I am not so sure my next card will be nVidia. Will wait and see what the new AMD cards are like. My hope is that EVGA partners with AMD. Unlikely I know as they use Sapphire.... but, EVGA is a company I do like.
