Minecraft RTX GPU Benchmark & DLSS On vs. Off Comparison: Significant Improvement

We've exhaustively benchmarked Minecraft RTX on Windows 10, including DLSS on vs. off, RTX on vs. off, chunk render distances and FPS, and more. Sponsor: Get 10% off Squarespace purchases If you're wondering what the best video card is for #Minecraft RTX, our benchmarks will answer that question. NVIDIA's RTX and DLSS 2. 0 came to Minecraft recently. Our GPU benchmarks include the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 Super, RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2060 Super, and RTX 2060 KO. These tests look at framerate (FPS) and frametimes at various resolutions, including 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, and with DLSS and RTX toggles. We also tested for 60FPS-normalized chunk render distance (how many chunks can be rendered at a fixed framerate) and tested performance on multiple maps, as it is variable. Additional graphics analysis includes explainers of new graphics arriving to the game, side-by-side comparisons of RTX on vs. off, comparisons of DLSS on vs. off, and discussion of glitches, imperfections, and differences. If you're lagging in Minecraft RTX, there's good reason, but there are a few ways to optimize (albeit not many. We're using our standard GPU test bench, including a 5GHz 8086K. More details in our GPU review methodology posts. Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti Xtreme Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super RTX 2080 Super on Newegg: EVGA RTX 2070 Super MSI RTX 2060 Super EVGA RTX 2060 KO Thanks for watching! We said it a few times in the video, but lots of people skip down to the comments. To really reiterate a point: Minecraft is a game that is made by its players, and so performance is mostly a representation of an expected hierarchy of cards and of an expected delta between cards. The absolute FPS numbers are largely meaningless, as they will change from map-to-map and creation-to-creation. We show that here, so you can check out the video if you want to know more.

11: 00 This kind of environment is a good reason to play Minecraft in 4K. Once you can actually see the entirety of a large build the scene is saturated with detail. The interesting thing about Path Tracing in relation to 4K displays is theoretically just raising the precision of your rendering is the same as increasing screen resolution. Running your Path Tracing at 1080p with 4 rays per-pixel will have exactly the same processor cost as 4K resolution, conceivably everyone is going to want to be running Minecraft RTX at 4K eventually regardless of your screen resolution. It's not just a matter of sharpness either. De-noising takes time, the more native samples the less de-noising needed. In this case running higher resolution means the delay we see in lighting updates should be dramatically reduced.

So FPS levels on a 2080TI in a game that is an absolute Best case for RTX to perform well, are barely acceptable. aka unless you spend 1200 on a graphics card, RTX is a marketing blurb with no Practical use. This is pretty normal for Nvidia, its usually 2-3 Generations before a New feature becomes actually practical. DONT buy a 2000 series card for RTX, a feature which the low and midrange cards dont have enough performance to support. If Nvidia stays true to form it wont work properly on high end ( 1000+) cards until the 3000 series and midrange ( 500) until 4000 series RTX cards. Raw performance is the only metric to use if buying a card today, in the price brackets where Nvidia has competition, RTX simply doesnt matter in any practical, real world, sense.

So sad that without DLSS, you couldn't run minecraft smoothly. This generation of RTX isn't even powerful to run its own features. That is the true disappointment. Maybe next generation, we might have cards that are actually ready for RTX. Edit: I never expected DLSS which had the purpose of helping graphics cards run smoother at higher resolutions. would be used to help a 2080 ti get over 60fps in minecraft. Don't get me wrong, I truly believe RTX minecraft is amazing, but it feels like we are struggling at the highest tier specs to even run it. When the next generation of RTX does come out, I hope to see you benchmark it Steve.

Steve, I don't mean to question your testing methodology, but there's no way a GTX 2080 Super couldn't go above 60fps with 14+ chunks loaded (non-RTX. I know it's anecdotal, but my RX 480 from years ago on MODDED minecraft gets over 70fps at a 15 chunk draw distance, and vanilla minecraft with raytraced shaders (SUES PTGI) gets average 60fps at 12 chunk draw distance. And that's on Java Minecraft, which is known to be significantly slower than the C++ based Bedrock edition, which is the edition that got RTX support. Just wondering what could have possibly stunted your performance so much in this case.

Ironic that the Sonic Ether mod actually runs better than Nvidia's official RTX patch. Plus last night I went on to Minecraft and found a few resource packs that look nearly as good as RTX without more than a 20% hit to performance even adding colored shadows and reflections just like ray tracing, though the obvious fact it used screen space reflection. Though it also added the ability for leaves and plants to blow in the wind which also effected their shadows so I'd still say I'd prefer the resource pack, even if shadows don't evenly fade over distance nor does it have immaculate reflections.

can you comment on this steve. its being advertised on nvidia as a free rtx beta trial and when I install xbox on my pc it wants me to buy the windows 10 Minecraft just to try rtx if you ask me that's a bit of a disappointment because 1 I cant stand the a way the mouse feels on the xbox windows game and 2 I feel like they just want to charge us whether we like or can even use rtx so im not gonna pay 25bucks just to try RTX out real quick. heck I already paid for a Mojang copy they need to make it where if we already own the game then we have rights to the windows 10 copy as well

I wonder if my overpriced Nvidia 2080 super will ever earn it's pay by giving me the FPS l bought it for. the tensa cores are useless as ray tracing nerfs your FPS and unless l stand still and look in a puddle or stare at a window l don't notice it at all. l will buy amd if rDNA 2 cards compete. If we all had a card that hit 240 FPS at 4 k would we upgrade for years? Looks to me like ray tracing is to hold back FPS so they can sell us a new card every year that give you extra 30 FPS a time. Intel did it with quad core CPUs keeping us stuck there for years until and saved us

gotta love when a 10+yr old game incorporates new graphical rendering techniques that absolutely DESTROY. 700-1800 GPU's from late 2018. i really am curious to see how and if console games will wind up adapting Ray tracing features, and if they do to what extent given performance impact. I know AMD has image sharpening, and Nvidia has DLSS, and maybe these one day make viable solutions. The IQ is certainly improved in 2. 0 over previous iterations. that's not saying much though. as previous iterations made 4 out of 5 games applied to, just unbearable to look at imo.

must be nice, i can't even try this with my rtx 2080 because gigabyte denied my RMA because i changed the thermal pads. when i called and said that was illegal and asked for a manager they changed their story to i incorrectly applied thermal pads. which is BS because how can i incorrectly apply arctic thermal pads? also the pads are on 4 of the ram because the stock pads were wearing down and dirty so why did all 8 sticks of ram die? i hate how they blame consumers for their issues. now i'm out 800 bucks because a billion dollar company can't honor their warranty.

its not even the same game java (the original version) is what most ppl play rtx only works in the cpp version (bedrock) bedrock performs better but its practicaly a different game-engine bedrock misses many features from the original java edition but also introduse some new ones the bedrock multiplayer comunity is way much smaller bedrock runs on windows-xbox-smartphones java (edition) runs on pc(windows-linux) and mac
