Overall, I think they sell enough 4090 to compensate for a bad sales of 4080, it's totally a decoy product on a current market which has 4090 for a lot and everything else for cheap. Nvidia doesn't lose a market share in sales volume, all new GPU sales are bad in volume right now. They expected sales to be bad after the mining boom and lockdown, so doing what they did seems very reasonable to manage the risk of overproduction. Having production capacity and capability to drop prices allows you to play the market as you want in such cases, they are already in for the losses in gaming segment in 2023. AMD pricing traditionally followed Nvidia, so no immediate risk there too. For that reason I don't think they are going to price 4070 any better. And the price drop for 4080 could be significant, but not necessarily tomorrow. They will gain themselves their name back with 50 series making it much more affordable and the unhappy customer problem is going to be solved. There is nowhere for customers to go anyway, AMD doesn't want to fight them seeing the same risks on a post-mining market and global economy crisis... and Intel is just being Intel.

So contrarian viewpoint, I m not sure it s as bad as people claim. I get the feeling that 4080 stock is very regional, if you live in certain countries where the economy doesn t support higher paying jobs then yes the 4080 doesn t sell. If you live in the states it sells reasonably well-enough?
Case in point, online retailers have it sold out in the US. He picked 4 Microcenter locations and only one was sold out, but I could pick 4 more and show it sold out at all 4 including the one near me, where I know they got in hundreds of cards and sold all of them.
For sure they sit on shelves longer than a 4090, but if that s the benchmark for success that s an unreasonable benchmark. How long should a graphics card sit on a shelf before being sold? What s the actual normal amount of time? I don t know.
Whenever I go into a Microcenter or Best Buy I see other gpus sitting on the shelf of different tiers and brands. Those cards don t move. Why no expose on those? Why the selective data when we don t have a complete picture of what the actual sales are?

there was apparent of evidence of MSI scapling their own cards under a shady LLC. where there is smoke there is a fire so its likely that MSI isn't the only one doing this they are just the only one who got caught. it could be possible that all gpu manufacturers have been pulling this stunt to get the max amount of profit for your card while keeping public relations in check. so my theory is nvidia sells the 2080s at a ridiculous price, then get chastised for said price increase. so to compensate for the loss in juicy profit, they scalp their own 30 series under deeply camouflaged LLCs and now for this card its back to insane price increases. so lets see if the pattern holds up. will 50 series be scalped to the point of armageddon like the 30 series did? if so id say my theory potentially holds candle to what's goin on here.

I don't understand. If they are not selling well, how are they also not really available and priced high. Shouldn't stores be sitting on inventory then that should at the very least make them available, if not make the shop want to sell them at lower prices eventually? Or is this a global distribution thing, where they are not available or cheap where I am, because lots of inventory was send, where miners were previously, but there they don't want to buy them, so now they are on route to be redistributed?
Because 4080's are mostly out of stock here in Europe and in most of the online shops you'd go to here. The only models available are water cooled or completely overbuild top of the line models at 1800+. No founders edition to be found anywhere.

People are complaining about the 7900 XTX but I think AMDs plan is GENIUS, even if it wasn't planned (I do not know). Nvidia literally smacked everyone in the face saying that you can't expect significant performance improvements for the same price, and AMD was like watch this. Customers should be PISSED at Nvidia, and the 4080 should be 999, at MOST.
Most hilariously, I LOVE that people are complaining that the 7900 XTX is early-silicon when it's going toe-to-toe and oftentimes beating the 4080. Meanwhile, the 7900 XTX can't be purchased because it's OOO EVERYWHERE and the 4080 is sitting around on shelves. Such a wild generation.

So here's the scenario you are faced with at the high-end: buy an overpriced product that's in-stock at a retailer, or buy an overpriced product that is in-stock on ebay. I mean it sucks to pay the high-price at the retailer, but that's the only way to get one for MSRP. Also, we have to stop pretending that 4090s and 7900 XTXs are available MSRP. So a consumer has to buy either a 4080 or 7900 XT at the high price if they want a new card and they want to game at the high-end. It's a lose-lose scenario for the average consumer. However, let's not act like gaming is an essential commodity. It is a hobby, and hobbies can be expensive!

0:23 2013 was a big year with a lot of potential, that Nvidia wasted, because of the pricing. If the pricings were right, then the original Titan was supposed to be sold for 750, instead of a 1000. Also Nvidia being greedy as hell, they didn't even sold the fully unlocked GPU. The Titan was just a stripped down version of the Titan Black Edition, which they delayed until 2014. If they released the Titan Black in 2013 instead of the OG Titan and sold it for 750. They could've made history and a big generational leap in technology.

Just an FYI from Europe regarding Mindfactory.
They are among the biggest and most well known seller in Germany and for many people a baseline when comparing price. Alternate, Case King and others have seemingly grown in recent years especially in CPU and GPU sales.
In 2019 basically all my friends bought from MF for personal builds as they offered all parts at decent prices.
Now many tend to spread out the purchase among the three I listed above, as you can save quite a bit of money that way.

I totally don't understand all these nonsense products announcements and these imaginary non existing prices. In Europe the product will ALWAYS be at least 20% more expensive than was announced. And don't start all this nonsense but this is taxes , the buyers DOESN'T care about all this lie. Just state that will be the REAL final price in the shops witch buyer WILL PAY. Oh and nvidia products will cost even more: announced prices +20% and + another 10% just because why not.

I'm not for sure why but, Micro Center has decided to keep most of the Nvidia's higher end 3000 series GPUs are being stored in the back and their glass display cabinets are just full of a few 4080s, 3060s, 3050s and below so, maybe they're just trying to artificially induce scarcity to keep the prices above MSRP or could they have been Advised by Nvidia themselves to not display their remaining higher end 3000 series cards to limit other options than the 4080??? :/

Yeah I've noticed msrp doesn't exist :(
7900xt starts at 1200, 4080 starts at 1350, 7900xtx is a bit all over the place. Cheapest I've it starting at is 1350 now, most places that have/had stock it's more like 1500, and the 4090 coming in at the very cheapest 1700, the very most like 2700.
Honestly a mess since besides the 4090 all these cards should be 700 at most with the 7900xt 500at most since its more like a 7700xt maybe 7800 non xt at the very best.

The RTX 4080 is also oversized. How on earth does it make sense to slap a 4090 cooler onto an 80 class card? (you could even argue it's a 70 class). I have an ITX case but the 4080 is just simply too big, there's no reason for the 4080 to be bigger than a 3080 considering its power usage. The most powerful nVidia GPU that will probably fit in my case will be the 4070/4070 Ti, keep in mind the reference 7900 XTX easily fits into my case with room to spare.

i have 3080 that i got this year as last year was impossible in my country. wasnt msrp price but low enough (900 usd)to buy for me when they finally arrived in stock. When i saw that 4080 was a little over half price of my old 10 year car (1600usd) i almost got heart attack. i think i keep my 3080 for longer. Tbh i dont need 4080 i play rpg,mmo only fps i play is destiny 2. As long as it is around 60fps im fine with that.

Why are the 4080 coolers so massively overbuild? Most cards that I have been able to see are 3.5 - 4 slots, despite it being just a 320W card, much less then the 355W of the RX 7900 XTX, which gets along fine with a 2.2 slot cooler in reference design. Only the Founders Edition is 3 slots exactly, and that is still way thicker, and I think also longer, and it is just impossible to get where I am.
