HW News - Fraudulent Used Video Cards, 7950X3D Pricing, New NVIDIA 'Titan' Rumors

This hardware news video talks about used GPU fraud, 7950X3D, 7900X3D, and 7800X3D pricing and release dates, new NVIDIA 'Titan' GPU rumors, and more. Discord presently also impacts GPU memory clock speed with NVIDIA cards and likely affects a lot of our viewers, so be sure to check that story for info on how to resolve it! Uncle: I'm not sure if that absurd Nvidia card will be a Titan, mostly because if they were going to release a genuine Titan card it would have been in 2021 when they could charge 3000 and people would buy it just for the bragging rights and to get the Titan features/support (which would have paid for all the feature engineering time in spades). Doing it now when people already aren't buying other Nvidia cards wouldn't do much for them, especially since they'd be paying more engineering money for the aforementioned Titan features

So 7900X3D is going to be 725 after 21% sales tax. I picked up a 7900X at 449 in january knowing this would happen. The 12-core X3D is not within reasonable budget. The 8-core 7800X3D would be the alternative to the 12-core 7900X based on price but is still 100 more. You gain cache (that does basically nothing at 4k) but lose 3 other things: clock speed, 4 cores, and more money that could be spent on a GPU. If on a 2nd monitor I run anything alongside a game on my 7900X those extra cores will do more for me than the cache would have. No contest in video encoding and other non gaming tasks either. The 4 extra cores will make it age better than the 8-core X3D as parallellization of games and software will continue to increase along with increases in core counts of future consoles. The X3Ds are a hard sell if you use your head. You don't buy a CPU for gaming, you buy it for everything else. The GPU is where the bottleneck will be so don't get caught up in the BeSt GaMiNg CpU hype and get the CPU that gives you best value for money for your use case. If that's only gaming, which is who these chips are targeted at then ironically the CPU doesn't really matter much at all if you're not playing at 1080p and don't care about 600 vs 700 fps. Save your money. For Americans the prices will be different but the price ratios between the CPUs are the same so the same comparison holds true. They're not worth the upcharge because you're paying launch price for them vs lowered price for the non X3D ones. If you can wait at least 6 months, the price might be close enough to the non X3D counterparts that they start to make more sense. And even then, beware that there may be performance issues due to thread scheduling problems in specific applications/games.

Just imagine all the Blizzard-associated Chinese esports teams who have spent millions on setting up teams, hiring players, coaches, event managers, franchise buyins etc etc - all of these either have to completely shut down overnight, or move to South Korea (which some have done). It's actually wild that Blizzard isn't immediately getting sued from all angles, as this surely goes directly against their contractual agreements with multiple firms across many franchises.
And then there are all the semi-pro players who have invested 10s of thousands of hours each into their respective games, basically tried to make it their living, but not been acquired to a wealthy team yet. These people have no realistic way of just moving country to gain active server access. Literally years of effort down the drain.

I have no idea which is worse for the backstabbing Blizzard or netease
I do go way back all the way from the original Diablo and I have Diablo reaper of souls two different accounts
Plus Diablo immortal and that has two different accounts
Diablo 2 for both yes two different accounts
Starcraft and starcraft 2
World of Warcraft battle chest
Pretty much all of the traditionals
I have two different accounts because I use it on two different computers side-by-side for one person to play me
I even dabbled and having a world of Warcraft server which did quite well
Until I had to tear everything apart and move after that and never bothered with it again
But I still play my Diablo 3 reaper of souls
And my Diablo immortal mostly it's all I have time for

Steve, i'm sure you don't read this crap but it's pretty obvious what the intent of that cooler design is, to show off the sideways mounted gpu everyone seems to want and allow 100% airflow through the card instead of only one part, it actually makes a ton of sense, the part your looking at is the bottom, it plugs in sideways, the card itself ( the pcie interface / gpu ) will be on the top, the whole cooler is slung underneath, and the fans can blow right through, unrestricted.

Game preservation should be taken a lot more seriously. I would like to know the numbers for how much is lost (if any amount at all) when games are DRM-free. Even network-oriented games should always allow a self-hosting/LAN arrangement. All this and the many crappy launchers are often dissuasive factors when considering whether to buy games or not.
Really shitty situation for the chinese players, especially for the social reasons Steve mentioned. Glad to see it getting some attention.

unless i missed the last launch i have seen listings for a 48 GB class card . not sure of the naming . I still haven't got my 6GB Tesla working but thats basically just a data centre titan . maybe i need a quadro to use it or different cpu setup(not r 3 1300x, r 5 3600 or threadripper 1900 i guess , idk such a pain to make it work). I would've guessed the gentleman who makes new nvidia cards for april fools day might've made the card shown . it seems too small for him although. XD

I would love a GPU where the PCB was vertical, as discussed in the video. But I would design it so that it would plug into both motherboard slots at the same time, using the lower one for support. This would allow for a cooler design like the noctua nh-d15, where the fans are standing up from the motherboard, pushing air from the front of the case through the back. It would also place the power connectors closer to the board, making it easier to manage.

How about Nvidia do a driver update instead of making me edit GPU profiles.
Nvidia can release multiple driver updates a month not just one a month.
I really do not feel like editing stuff after I installed them.
I am doing that enough at work already modifying queries scripts and so on. I would much rather have something come as an automatic update via the software(Geforce Experience), then to take any extra un-neccesary steps.

There s been at least one case I remember many years ago where an mmo deleted a players items and the player took them to court and the court ruled that because you have to work to get the items and a few other reasons I dont remember, it ruled that the player owned the items and that the mmo must restore al the items. I honestly don t remember all the details but I do remember the court rules in the player s favour

Meanwhile at Nvidia Headquarters.
Negreedia Exec: Sir our sub 4090 cards are not selling.
Jensen King of Greed: Ignore those poor idiots, if they cant pay 1k they are not our customers.
Negreedia Exec: Sir should we release lower price cards or lower our prices.
Jensen King of Greed: increase prices, call the slightly modified 4090 as 4090 TI and Ada Titan, have 4090 SUPER ready as well.

Discord bugs are irrelevant for me and my friends, i deleted my servers and took over dozen people with me.
It wasn't because the software was crap, always was, but the TOS change to track your out-of-platform behaviour and record EVERYTHING you say.
Maybe it's just me but Steam VC has improved a lot and there is no reason to use spyware to chat online.
(teamspeak IRC ftw)

With regards to the new Nvidia Titan rumour you might consider multi-monitor setups: with GPU sockets positioned as they are you cannot fit fibre-optic Displayport video cables next to each other. The transceivers are too large. By spacing them out across the card you fix that problem. With 80 Gbps Displayport all but very short cables will have to be fibre-optic.

That's a cool idea for that shift psu. Even in my shark case that would work. I'd like to see the option of right angle connectors on the cables though for if you only use a few that can take up the space. Also for your test benches you'd want to leave the cables plugged into the psu anyway as who cares if there are loose, (un-used), cables on a test bench psu?

I find industry financials important, actually. It really shapes how much money they get for research going forward, and we dont need to discuss how that has affected this industry,
And also, it severely impacts several IT-focused ETFs and Indexes. It hits people saving money, regular everyday investors (like myself) and our retirement funds probably.
