This hardware news episode talks about the possibility - maybe, finally - of sub- 200 GPUs arriving. Hopefully. We'll see. Topics include rumors of the new RTX 3050 (yes, as in a 2023 launch), new Intel Arc A580, leaks of Intel 14th Gen specs, and coverage of the Epic Games layoffs. We'll also be talking about the EK WB PS5 water block, an AZZA Mesa case, native RGB support in Windows, and more.

For a company that is seemingly in financial trouble, you would think that they would want to maximize sales of the products that they offer. However, that does not seem to be the case. On September 28th new DLC content was released for Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries. I had purchased the original game and all the subsequent DLC for the game from Epic Game Store. On Sept 27th the DLC was available to purchase on EGS. However, when I went to check out, there was a problem with the credit card. That is the same card that I have used for all my purchases on EGS. I tried another card. That one was also rejected. Finally, I used my wife's Paypal account to make the purchase. Later, I found out on the MW5 Discord that many people, if not everyone, were having the same problem buying from Epic. It now has been more than a week since the DLC went on sale but people who bought Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries from EGS still cannot purchase the DLC for the game. I suspect that this is not just a problem with this particular game but rather a problem with the entire store when using a credit card. They do not seem to be aware or motivated to fix it. What does that say about the stability and future of the company?

I can tell you how and why Epic had to let go of so many people. They tried to follow the metaverse shit because tech bros are brain dead and think people want to live in a virtual space. And they wasted a lot of money trying to keep games exclusive to their platform with huge deals instead of make the epic launcher actually competitive to steam so people would want to try it out. The didn't put the money where it needed to go. And expanded way to quickly now they are throwing shade on the industry and steam for basically their failure. Hopefully everyone lands on their feet. But this is my opinion and Tim Sweeney fault 100% maybe he can pull a rabbit out of his ass and fix it but that doesn't do much for the employees. Oh and bring back Unreal Tournament and drop fortnite.

Wow! As usual, these guys are on top of - well, everything! Since my job is just down the road from the original Epic HQ is was actually hoping for an IKEA on the site where Steve is standing but Epic bought it instead. I was secretly hoping for a Micrcenter but Charlotte got that. Anyway, I wish those guys well! The few folks I've met from there are super nice. Hey Steve! If you see this please consider doing a future explanation of the 12VHPWR vs 12V-2x6 connector and how that will affect PSU, cable, and GPU upgrades. Aris did a video but an explanation from you will prolly be more helpful. I really appreciate GN and HW News!

I do miss the food court in the Cary Towne Center. It was nothing special, but it was nice to have some options in the area. That said, that mall was dead for a long time, and IKEA deciding against it (and the presence of the Crossroads mall) was the final death blow. But wow, it's sad to see that they are probably pulling out of the project - any good idea that I would have for it is probably already going to be realized with the South Hills Mall, or Fenton. So, I expect either luxury condos (because Cary really needs additional expensive housing), a fitness center/gym, or just an empty lot for years.

whoever was in charge of fortnite had the world's biggest ego and absolutely outright refused to listen to any of the community feedback for the past 4-5 years (performance issues, stutter, lag, visibility issues, balance issues and multiple game braking bugs that were never addressed since release) they completely dropped their own lore and replaced it with marvel + hollywood bs that literally nobody asked for or wanted, another big issue is the lack of local servers making the game unplayable for a large portion of the world due to the game being incredibly ping dependent

The 4050 hasn't come because NGreedia is having a really hard time gimping the memory bus to the new 4040 tier in performance whilst still being competitive (with DLSS enabled) to the 3050. It's hard to gimp it juuuuust right to match the price/performance increase over the 3050 without killing the card entirely. Cut them some slack. It's hard being the market leader and having to gimp your cards to maximize profits. Poor NGreedia. Won't anyone think of the poor trillion dollar company?

Eh the story of Epic isn't really that unusual. Many companies have a year or two of significant financial growth, so they invest that growth into expanding the company. This often comes with layoffs years later. Periods of significant growth do not last forever. Companies over expand without thinking of the future consequences. This just seems like a very standard story that a ton of large businesses go through at some point.

I actually remember a Dream I had recently where I saw Fortnite on Steam officially. The way Overwatch was put on Steam. The downside, is that the economy and society completely collapsed soon after Fortnite was added to Steam. Mind you there were bigger things going on in my dream, and Fortnite being on Steam didn't initiate anything for the world events, but this part stood out as odd to me in the dream.

Quick note: Geizhals is not a retailer, but a price comparison website. It's an Austrian company, but also works in Germany to compare prices from German retailers. In my experience, it is very accurate and reliably finds the best prices in Germany and some other European countries. Might be useful if you want to get a quick impression of prices in Europe/Germany. Also has a price history.

If I didn't hate RGB enough to turn it all off, if I didn't hate clicking through layers of menu enough to stay on Windows 10, I'd say it's pretty good to add native RGB controls.
These suspiciously network talkative and weirdly high load RGB softwares are just cancer. You shouldn't have to deal with software pollution on top of visual pollution, that's just cruel!

This is definitely Hearsay from a friend but it was a reliable friend with a lot of industry contacts. Supposedly, Epic actually shut down internal slack across the company the day they announced the massive layoffs, which to me speaks volumes for how they treat their employees, versus the shiny We're helping! veneer they're trying to show the public.

Epic wouldn't be in this position if it didn't put all of its eggs in one basket; if Tim Sweeney hadn't gone on a one man crusade against Steam and offering unsustainable exclusivity deals to developers, alongside numerous free game offers in a fruitless effort to attract customers to a developer friendly platform(as opposed to a consumer friendly one).

That fine to Epic is ridiculous. If you weren't actively misled about what you're buying, it's your responsibility, if you decide to purchase it, how can that be unintentional ? And literally every company ever uses dark patterns, it's not illegal. Also, a kid using mom's credit card isn't Epic's responsibility either.

Epic , Sounds like a legal battle to not be Responsible [ by the mere statement that us employees get paid and everyone else can suck it , shows that they are getting away with legal and ethical workmanship by using offshore employee base which is the path of the Majority of us based companies trying to advert regulations

i dont understand why companies like epic suddenly decide the best thing to do with money is to immediately spend it all and risk going into financial trouble like just happened?
if they had planned better and spent less they could have had enough to basicly survive off of with 0 income for a long time in worst case

I really couldn t care less about this new old RTX 3050 6GB. We have RX 6600s and Arc A750s floating around under 200, and both of those embarrass any version of the 3050 and won t choke at 1080p in new titles you know, because Nvidia has no interest in having any actually decent budget products.

Well, when corporations get hit with big fines, workers get laid off.
When government spends money we don't have or borrowing for our kids to pay, the government employees don't get laid off but tax us more to keep their jobs even though they are doing a horrible job where they should be fired.

if you didn't see the epic situation coming i have no hope
7:16 this is why you diversify your employment portfolio with your partner. never both work for the same company for this exact reason. Now, what projects were you both working on so i know which ones to avoid?

Stephanie Sterling said it best when they said that when times are good, CEOs get the bonuses off the backs of their employees' labours. When fortunes start going down, layoffs happen to the people that had nothing to do with it. Layoffs are a failure of management.

Evidence of deep mental scarring: Every time you say messa I my brain lags out and blends in Jar Jar Binks' voice.
Worse, though, is the fact that they made the case all pointy and stuff, but called it Mesa when mesas are flat on top, as defined by Merriam-Webster.
