Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 Case Review vs. Lian Li O11 XL

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 is a large SSI-EEB (or, cringe, E-ATX) tower, particularly geared toward high-end dual-system builds or toward water cooling builds. The case is trying to compete with the Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL for status as the best water cooling case. We did radiator size and compatibility comparisons between the two, but also ran thermal tests for the Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2's fabric mesh front panel. This is a new marketing gimmick in the realm of airflow, so we thought we'd test the panel on vs. off, dust filters on vs. off, and other combinations thereof. Note that, of course, static pressure performance greatly affects the numbers coming out, and so higher speed fans will minimize the differences between these two. Running slower fans, like we did in one set of tests, will show more of a difference -- but it's still a small one. Most of the time in this one is spent in the build section and radiator compatibility sections, as it's obvious that the most important aspect of the case is related to water cooling and large system support, not necessarily just airflow. That makes it difficult to fit in our testing approach, but we made it all work.

This seems like a case that could really do well in terms of thermals only using air cooling. Instead of experimenting with what's possible with strategically placed bottom intake fans and top exhaust fans, plus a rear fan, you claim it really only makes sense for liquid cooling. I don't get that at all. Yeah, it's great to measure how cases perform out of the box (and use that as an excuse to do a standard front intake setup only), but I'd really like to know which case to get if I'm prepared to go all out on air cooling. You haven't even mentioned what size air coolers will fit. I'm assuming there aren't any restrictions to speak of, but I just don't know.

As an owner of the Phanteks Enthoo 719 (formerly Luxe 2) this case reminds me of it EXACTLY with the only differences being the front panel and the lack of a fill port and top panel. That's it. And you can fit a radiator in the side while fitting another in the front. The trick is a 30mm thick or thinner between the back panel with fans being inside the case it is a little tight but it fits. I currently have two 360mm radiators (top and front) in mine.
What I plan to do at some point is go three rads, 2x 360mm x 60mm (top and bottom), 1x 480mm x 60mm (front) with the side and rear fans being intakes.

I have a similar Phanteks Enthoo 719, with 10 fans, my XFX Thicc III Ultra 5700 XT stays at 55C typically in a session, no spikes over 65C.
I shoved a dual socket server in it, my CPUs stay at 50C even under full load, idle at 30C. Sure its not a server case, but I wanted something like a desktop, with a lot of hard drive/ssd space, and I also plan on putting an itx board in it one day.
Airflow is very important! Case fans case fans case fans!

This case has the almost exact internal layout as the Enthoo 719. One of the use case for this case is workstation building, I had built a 10900x with a X299X Aorus Master motherboard and a set of 4x RTX 2080ti (Gigabyte blower style cooler) for RedShift Rendering. Since it's one of the biggest case that can support a quad GPU and support for a ton of hard drives, and other brand like Fractal Design isn't available in Vietnam, where I located.

This layout is the same as the Enthoo 719 (Luxe 2).... And you CAN fit front and side 480mm slim radiators, you just have to be creative (as shown in your pictures). The fans or the rad have to be on opposite sides of the mounting bracket.. In addition, neither of those front/side rads would interfere with a bottom and top radiator, so it can support 2x480 and 2x360 rads which is more than the 011XL.

Personally I hate cases that come with useless low end fans I remove and toss into my ever expanding parts bin. I really appreciate fanless enthusiast cases. My current DIY water cooled system in a Dynamic XL with 3x360 rads. Really love your case reviews please keep it all coming...In fact I enjoy pretty much all your content.

With this case being essentially the 719, I can attest that cable management sucks in this case. I wanted to fill some space up front so I added 10 ML120 pro rgb fans which required 2 fan controllers and 2 rgb controllers. Took me 4 hours to be able to get the side panel on AFTER the rest of the computer was built

I have an O11 XL. Even if it lacks a bit in cooling (review just started) the front of the Phanteks looks hideous and on looks alone, that's a no brainer. But hey, that's just first impressions.
I'll edit this as I watch this. I'm getting awesome thermals in mine with 7 Chromax fans not counting my rad fans.

Steve, what happened to Snowflake ?
Is she busy working on a massive roundup of the best budget CPU air-coolers?
That's one review I would love to watch, especially now that you have a specific test bench for that !
(btw, I bought the TD500 Mesh following your recommendations, thanks a lot!)

Have you folks thought about revisiting GPUs? I m curious how badly previous monstrosities like the HD5970, GTX 295, GTX 590 and HD 6990, as well as their single chip counterparts would be clowned on by modern cards.
