As many have said, not a full install of Pop OS, just some of the desktop features added to Gnome Desktop. I kept getting an update notification but kept getting an error until I turn off the repository to System76.
Next when you reboot and get ready to sign in, if you select the little gear at the bottom of the login screen you can select which desktop you want to use. so you can switch back and forth. After installing it break the launch bar when switching back to Gnome. To fix it you need to reinstall gnome-shell-extension-cosmic-dock and gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

I think it is quite irresponsible to claim that by performing these actions it is the same as a clean install (you didn't say those words but you did say that by doing it this way you don't need to do a clean install), this is not a real -upgrade- it is potentially breaking the system, you didn't do it on your daily driver but on a virtual machine, I doubt you would recommend anyone to do this on their daily driver. It's nice experimentation but the way this was described and presented is not something I am okay with.

I love Pop OS, mainly for the extra 10 to 15 FPS gain when gaming... but the networking files and folders seem problematic... i can't see the, -Local Network Share- tab when i go to folder properties when trying to share a folder... after finding a solution to all of that, i could share a folder, but couldn't see it on the network, so i gave up... if you could provide a solution to networking in Pop OS, that would be superb... ;) Unless im the only one with this problem... tried 20.04 and 21.04 versions btw..

Pop!_OS Developer here; This is a potentially very destructive action and may break your system. Don't attempt this. Ubuntu and Pop are very closely related, but they do have some fundamental differences between them that make this both incomplete and harmful. The -only- supported way to change an Ubuntu installation into a Pop!_OS installation is to reinstall your OS with Pop instead of Ubuntu (or vice-versa).

The answer is simple DO NOT UPGRADE. POP is nicely customisable piece of junk. It is non transferable, and completely unsupported. If does the job on network drivers, but completely fails on graphics, sound and bluetooth...I am devastated by the number of failures with this system...it was good only after upgrade from ubuntu, when all ubuntu drivers were at work. Later after each update it went only worse.

This is just the install of the Desktop Environment. It does not provide you with Pop shop or any of the system76 packages.
Both are Debian based and similar version of kernel so no worries about that.
You can install the additional packages but imo its better to install Pop_OS from scratch and not have to deal with the Ubuntu bloat.

This is something that interests me because I want to install Lambda Lab's Lambda Stack on Ubuntu 18.04 to get Tensorflow, etc, but I want all the features of Pop!_OS. I was just going to install the pop theme and the pop_shop, but this sounds be better. What happens to one's video driver, etc?

Unsubbed quickkkkk when I saw this title. There more developers running linux for development/production/live/test than there are desktop users homie stop with the random distros that WILL be phased out!

Man, such a misleading click-bait vid, to gain only views and earn some extra on the side..
It is better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.. especially this one..

Pop!_OS is not ready for prime time. I had multiple issues with it that would send a new user straight back to Windows. Run Linux Mint on a fresh install and stop fretting with Gnome and its deliberate weirdness.
