I've tried Linux, and I still do at least once a year for the hell of it. But I keep going back to windows because Linux offers an inferior experience all around literally everywhere. I like trying out different software at random times for the fun of it. Linux is exactly that, just a random piece of software for me to try out for fun.
-How is Linux Freedom again?
Because the only thing I seem to be able to do is make it look pretty. It's still missing a Trillion Programs that I can't run (Less Freedom of Choice in Software). Compatibility with the vast majority of Hardware that's out there (and most of the experimental stuff) is missing (Less freedom of choice in hardware). It can't play DRM/HDCP content (Less freedom of Choice in Multimedia). Most of the games still don't run on Linux and those that do are unstable (with the very rare occasion of that one game that actually does run how it's supposed to) (Less freedom of Choice in Games).
-HDCP is bad!
I didn't even know what HDCP was for until I tried to watch something on Netflix on Linux! So I guess it is bad for the Linux community, because Linux is the only thing that can't work with it without some herculean effort.
-Commercial Codecs are the Devil!
I'm sorry I can't hear you over my Terrabyte's worth of TV Shows and Movies on proprietary codecs complete with HDR and 4K Support.
-Windows Sucks because it's unstable!
Where? I have never seen windows crash on mine or anyone's computer. The only time I've seen windows Crash/BSOD is when I tried to intentionally break something.
-Linux has all the software I use!
Well good for you, Linux doesn't have any of the software or games that I use. Or is even compatible with the hardware I have in my computer. And doing a quick Google search, looks like Linux doesn't have any of the software many professionals use either. So either you're lying to me, or I'm delusional in thinking that Linux doesn't have the software I use on a daily basis.
-You just don't want to learn about computers!
I am an Embedded System's Engineer, I work with Real Time Operating systems and Custom Specialized ASIC Hardware/Software and FPGAs. I spend WEEKS learning the ins and outs of RTOSs and Specialist Computer Hardware. Linux ain't fun to learn and develop for. And yes, I've used RTLinux.
-The world Runs on Linux!
Yea, the Corporation Maintained and Invested version of Linux that no one has to deal with unless they're getting paid to. Who owns Linux again? The Community? Yea, sure keep telling yourselves that while Mircorsoft (Azure Sphere before you claim that Microsoft shouldn't be here), Google, Amazon, and all these corporations keep pumping money into their own little slice of Linux that they maintain and develop for. Yea, yea sure, Linux definitely belongs to the community.
-Android is Linux!
Have you actually sat down and looked at Android? I don't even recognize it as Linux. Yea it's got some semblance of Linux, but it is radically different from the Linux you know. Also, it's owned and maintained by -Google- a Multi-Billion Dollar Corporation, which according to Linux is -Evil- and should be -Boycotted- at all costs.
-You can make anything you want on Linux!
You can do that too on Windows! Have you heard of Visual Studio? Eclipse works just fine on Windows. Actually I haven't seen a single thing that I can't do on Windows. I can even change the shell according to MSDN. I even have more development tools on Windows than I do on Linux!
-Windows Sells your data!
Do a quick google search. It's trivial to cripple Window's Telemetry data if you care that much. Oh I'm sorry, I'm a Window's user, I'm not supposed to know how to use google to do something on my computer. Right. I'm sorry.
-Just use alternatives to what's on Windows.
I do that all the time... On Windows! As a matter of fact there are WAY more alternatives on Windows than on Linux.
Linux and Windows are basically opposite of each other. With Windows you get everything right out of the box. Anything you don't want you remove it, and add whatever is missing. With Linux you get Nothing right out of the box, anything you do want you add. It's that simple. I just prefer to have more -freedom- of choice available to me than no -freedom- of choice. But yea, you're right Linux is freedom...
Look, if you want Linux to beat windows, you have to first stop pretending like Linux is Freedom, because it isn't. Linux is -Free- not -Freedom-. Freedom means you can do whatever you want whenever you want. On Windows, you can do whatever you want whenever you want, sometimes it comes at a price of either time and effort or money. On Linux, whatever you can do comes at the cost of Time and Effort, and the choice of what you can do is incredibly limited. Both OSs demand a certain level of knowledge in order to do things, Windows just requires less effort to do the trivial stuff. The ONLY thing Linux has that it beats windows in options is the Flavors... Which is moronic to consider that as a -Plus-, what advantage does that bring to the table? It doesn't bring any, it just fragments the community and weakens Linux as a whole by fragmenting the community and features. Instead of having just the ONE Linux, that is modular enough that you can bring in the components you want/need in one go and then use that. You have 100 different versions of linux that all suck to use because they all have missing features. Please, tell me: What Feature does Windows NOT have that Linux does? And be honest, I truly want to know.

I switched to Linux because everyone says a great programmer should be able to work with it. At the end, not only did most things they said Linux was better at turned out to be wrong, there were significant things that Linux is horrible at that advocates didn't even mention. A good example is the slow Caps Lock, I KEep TYping STuff LIke THis because Caps Lock takes AGES to switch, unlike Windows where it's instantaneous, and apparently this is a well known problem that -everyone- has had with Linux for YEARS now and nobody has fixed it?? And yes, most games run poorly (as in, it's difficult to get them to run, or run with mods, like Minecraft) or don't run at all. You know, it feels like Linux was created for some kind of robot users, not people. Also, they said you don't have to restart your computer for updates anymore, but that's simply not been the case, I have had to restart it for updates many times. Do I have to mention the countless hours and nerves I've wasted googling how to do basic stuff on Linux that come for granted on Windows? Such as controlling how quickly my fans rotate, there was a premade program for that on Windows, not the case for Linux, and no amount of software managed to do that, and there wasn't an option for it in BIOS either, which I guess was partly my fault for buying such a shitty motherboard with a locked BIOS. But still, unless you're some kind of robot or willing to put in countless hours just to learn how to do stuff on Linux that you can readily do on Windows, and thus waste your time anyway, Linux SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS.

Windows user first day on Linux- Notices the videos on Facebook stutter. So he goes to the forum for his distro and states the problem and asks for help. Friendly Linux dude with 30 years experience who runs a server farm for a fortune 500 company responds and asks- -How many servers will this fix be for and will you be automating the process with a C++ or Python script?- - Newbie- -What? I just want my Facebook videos to not stutter.- IT Pro- -I understand, but I need to know if you are looking for a script to automate the solution across all of your servers or if you will use a backport automated update.- Newbie- -There are no servers, I'm sitting here at my home computer that I Installed Linux on 2 hours ago and just want Facebook videos to not stutter.- Newbie expects to be told where to go to in settings to click on a checkbox and maybe have to enter a small number into a box. IT Pro- comments a full page of cryptic terminal commands with many operands and variables. Newbie removes the drive with Linux on it from his computer takes it outside pees on it and then sets it on fire while laughing hysterically. Then the newbie tells all his friends how horrible Linux is.

I just left Linux for Windows after migrating. I got the Gemini from Planet Computer that was advertised as being able to install Debian Linux - which I did. It also came with Libre Office that for some reason wouldn-t let me install any other program. Anytime I tried to install GIMP or VLC it would cite something was wrong with the Libre Office base. I have no idea what Libre Office has to do with a GIMP installation but suffice to say no one was able to help me troubleshoot the issue so I had no choice but to run back to Windows with a dozen roses and an apology. I spent like 10 hours trying to install programs on Linux and I didn-t succeed even once. Plus, one program I wanted was GB Studio that runs on Linux - but I couldn-t install GB Studio because it wasn-t compatible with ARM processors (nor did the download page warn me of this. Just said it works with Debian) so I was told to recompile the source code. No thank you. I need to get work done so I-m not going to slave for days just to install software. When I launch Windows into its first boot I can download programs right away without worrying about Microsoft Office breaking my Adobe Photoshop installer.

Disclaimer: I use MacOS and Manjaro Linux currently.
Cons of windows: expensive?
As far as India is concerned we get to activate Windows just through CMD without any law enforcement on us for piracy. Due to a huge market MS doesn't take any action on individual usage of pirated windows here and in many other nations.
MS office? Again pirated and it updates! -
So, these are the biggest cons anyone ever told me.
Windows 10 is much more mature now, can't use it as a server but INDIVIDUAL USE I am talking about.
Well, it doesn't break as it used to be.
You just need to know what gets your work done. My old HP can't handle windows 10 that smoothly. I use linux on it.
That's my reason. If there was something I need to do and and that was only possible through windows then I'd have used windows anyway. If you get your work done then you don't have to listen to anyone on what OS you should be using. It totally depends on you and your work.

I just moved all my machines back to windows because of retrofe or coinops specifically. Certain things like model 2 and 3 emulation isn't possible on linux. I was trying to move to Linux full time and loving it but emulation dragged me back in. I tried dual booting on my main machine but I found it to be annoying. I loved Linux but it doesn't do what I want either at all or without a huge fight. It sucks because I was using Zorin OS and loving it. I was gonna buy new hardware just to Switch. Hopefully someone will eventually make linux builds of the software I need and I can Switch because I miss Linux. -

In case people dont know, I think this video is satire; the creator said so himself in a comment.
I honestly find it hilarious how linux users tend to think they're better than windows users and think that linux is going to overtake windows. But I guess they can keep their dreams that obviously won't happen....I mean, you can't expect me or other people to just suddenly make the switch Lol.

Another reason might be is Windows 10 seems a lot better than it was in 2015. And hardware niggles. I have a bluetooth adapter for my PC which works perfectly with wireless headphones and earbuds. In Linux Mint it works for a while then the whole screen freezes. I haven't given up on Linux but am going to use only Windows 10 for a few weeks and see how it all goes. I loved Windows 7.

For me it was 100% games performance. They just don't run anywhere near how they do in Windows. The amount of time I was spending on how to do all these different tweaks to try and get things running well was just overwhelming. Not to mention I didn't understand how to do some of it so it was frustrating as well. Finally I said screw it. They just work in Windows so I went back.

Two main reasons I gave up on Linux for now. First, the damn hassle of getting programs up and running. Second, the huge draw of linux being free to use was just offset by MS allowing free use of their OS but with minor limitations. Those were enough reasons for me to stay on Windows for the time being.
