I've had a better experience with Manjaro on my gaming laptop than PopOS. With PopOS I couldn't resolve the screen tearing in some applications and it became unbootable when I switched to Nvidia mode while troubleshooting. Manjaro took some finagling, but less than Pop OS. Once I figured out the optimal order to do things - I had to update the kernel for parts of the laptop to work; update Nvidia drivers; install Optimus; run hybrid mode - it has run like a dream. Honestly the best computing experience I've ever had.
Pop OS - I HATE Gnome. I could get used to it. I was getting used to it. I'd rather not get used to it. The only reason I even tried using Pop OS was the hybrid graphics on this laptop. I don't have enough experience with different hardware configurations to know how much of a hassle Nvidia cards are in other situations, but in my case? Manjaro has worked better for me than the alternatives.

One thing I noticed when I went from Ubuntu to Manjaro was extremely poor support for my -fakeRAID- setup. I have an older desktop, circa 2013, and I use Intel RST to stripe raid 2 250GB SSDs.
Windows and Ubuntu just installed on it no prob. I didn't even know I had a -special- configuration.
Spent hours and hours trying to get it to work with Manjaro though... Hours and hours.... I think there is a way, I just couldn't figure it out. I think you need to configure dmraid or something like that.
I ended up not using RST anymore and installed the efi and root on sda. Then used the remaining space on sda and sdb to create a striped lvm and mounted it to the /home directory so at least I have a few hundred GBs of contiguous space to use. Though no speed boost from striping the entire install. Oh well probably upgrade my system in a couple years anyways and then I'll have a big NVMe drive.

Hi. I have an odd question about linux gaming... I have an Alienware M15 rev 1 laptop, which can handle pretty much everything. Only issue is when it heats up to 100 degrees...when gaming. My combo on Windows is Throttle stop for cpu under-voltage, msi afterburner for gpu overclock and alienware control center for fan control. I've tried several tools in PopOs and Ubuntu with no success and this is the only thing keeping me trapped in windows right now. I7 8th gen, 32gb RAM, 2NVME in raid0, gtx 1070 and burning hot. HELP? Thank you. A video about it would be nice, or any help would be appreciated. We all love you! Ovi

There is so many things about Linux i dont get the more i research the more confused i get... :(
all i do is game and listen to music with occasional video editing and it seems i will go Debian 10 Buster as a first ever Linux Experience since that seems to be required for one software i need which is sad coz Chris say -would never recommend it to a gamer- :(

I like openSUSE because it's a rolling release and has support for .RPM files so for a beginner it's useful, but I don't know how to install a kernel with Fsync support, install GOverlay, and also other things like having to enter your password everytime you want to mount an internal HDD (NTFS), so in my opinion, for gaming Manjaro is much easier to use.

im on manjaro kde right now on my old pc because im trying to get used to linux. both of my gpus are nvidia, so i might have to give pop os a go. manjaro feels weird in terms of graphics performance so far. especially kde in general. besides the issues, i like it though. it just sucks that performance with nvidia stuff seems to be kinda meh.

Thing is, if you dont have a good pc, linux is not gonna benefit you. I have a mediocre laptop but nothing i've ever done helped my gaming performance on ubuntu and mint ( completely unplayable) i switched to windows now and everything is good. I mean possibly linux is freedom but not if it limits my specs performance :/

Pop is too heavy and laggy. Just like all Ubuntu based systems. Easy to destroy with just one bad installation of some app and then people like me have to reinstall whole system. Also ubuntu based system sometimes just fells for no reason.

Is there a noob-proof way for me to backup my current distro (Raspberry pi OS x86 or -Raspbian- to use it's old name) and all my files, folders, programs etc. so that I can try out others without losing everything?
