Uninstall Microsoft Edge and Keep it from Coming Back - Chris Titus Tech Edge is the modern day hydra... Cut it's head off and it multiplies and gets reinstalled. The 14 September KB5005565 update for my W10 20H2 machine failed repeatedly, for no apparent reason. On a hunch, I downloaded and reinstalled latest Edge, and the update went through smoothly straight away. It seems that Edge is required for updates, or this one at least, to work and, if it's not there, it needs to be reinstalled. I had added the -No Edge- registry key, but the Edge install ignored that.
Edit: It appears, looking around, that this problem occurs if Edge has been removed, but the empty folder -C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge- is left behind. Suggested remedies are either to reinstall Edge (as I've done) or to delete this folder. I know that Edge reinstallation will allow the update, but can't say whether deleting the folder will also do so.

It might be worth noting for the benefit of current viewers here that the fix reported here does not appear to work anymore-
More recently Chris is saying that he can-t get rid of Edge anymore. He says he hates the thing, and a lot of his tools stuff breaks bits of it. I doubt he will find a way to get rid of it, based on what he has recently been saying. -
He warns that if you have any interest in using Edge, then you should not have anything to do with his stuff.-
His stuff messes it up, and he don-t care.

After using Manjaro over 2 weeks now, I can see why people loves to have full control unlike in Windows OS. I still have the mentality of the needs of using Windows due to my workflow but I'm slowly changing that by actually getting used to a Linux environment and I love it. Hopefully in the near future - Linux can overtake Windows cause all of these forced stuff is just insane.

I am actually using Microsoft edge for few months now and it's actually good. Of course the way Microsoft forces users to use edge is not cool. But the browsers itself has improved a lot. And I find pdf viewer of edge much better than that of chrome. I just wish Microsoft would let us choose default search engine in the search bar of start menu.

I get a -Unexpected token 'uninstall' in expression or statement- and -The '--' operator works only on variables or on properties.- error messages. I've quadruple checked and have typed everything right. Has Microsoft already patched this to not make it work anymore or am I doing something wrong?

You just know they will make it really difficult on the Windows 11 official release! Anyway, I use firefox as it is the only browser that does not invade privacy! Has been my goto for years - tried Brave - not for me! Personal Choice though! Love your content!

Edge is chromium now, its not as bad as it used to be, personally I'm fine having it, specially since it has specially Internet Explorer Modes what many still need certain compatibilities with certain pages and even plugin based setups like IP Cameras.

Hi Chris,
Whenever I stream videos of chrome and edge browsers, my intel gpu load takes up 100% usage and the videos start buffering a lot. I checked the gpu performance of intel and it goes way up to 100% and keeps fluctuating. Please help.

That Bill Gates FORCIBLY IMPOSSES upon us this browser (whether or not we want it) speaks to the ARROGANCE of Gates.
Really sounds like the same kind of jerk that would hang out with that Jeffery Epstein creep.

I don't feel super passionately against Edge. I actually like a lot of the accessibility oriented features it has. I use them quite a bit. I don't see what's so wrong about it
