A First Look At Devuan 3.0 -Beowulf- DistroTube Devuan is a protest distro that is a fork of Debian but without systemd. I've never looked at Devuan before, so I downloaded their standard desktop-live ISO and run through a quick installation. It comes with the XFCE desktop and sysvinit, but there are other options for desktop environments and init systems if you so choose. - https://devuan.org/os/announce/beowulf-stable-announce-060120

I have never heard anyone use the word -protest distro-. The history of why Devuan forked Debian goes much deeper than -people had a problem with Systemd-.
It looks like something from 15 years ago? That is just the default XFCE theme which is used by Debian and countless other distros. The stock installation is not made for normal Windows type users, it is meant to be customized. You can easily install KDE or Gnome, that is the whole point of Linux. Why even bother reviewing the stock software installed?
Basically it seems like you have no idea what you are talking about.
Oh and it's not -f-stab-. It is pronounced -FS Tab- like in Filesystem Table.

He's a smart guy, but when I'm looking for a review of a distro, I'm really not concerned about superficial things like which apps come installed by default, or his thoughts on the colours of the wallpaper. What are the essential features that make the distro unique and how do those contribute to its strengths and limitation? What is the claim for removing systemd, and does the results of replacing it live up to the theory. It doesn't take a sophisticated user to download, change and install new wallpapers and icons for xfce. Building a fork of Debian without systemd is, however, well beyond my knowledge set.

Of course its' sensible VI is not installed by default in this day and age. You like ancient relics, fine :) but it's a very inconvenient clumsy editor by modern standards ( but very fast I know for bulk tasks), Having insert mode is just an extra layer that makes it very clumsy to use and an outdated concept from the past , I know it inside out btw, I still use it in the terminal, old habits die hard :), but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in this day and age.

Thanks for video. I tried this distribution once, it is a very fast and serial system, I think it is a very good choice for those looking for a different distribution in linux. It has a light fast attack and a configurable interface. Xfce is already a beautiful desktop and hardware friendly on its own. I think it's a distribution that can be installed personally for old computers. However, it can be a bit of a problem for first time installers. (:

You should do more research/reviews of linux distros that don't get mainstream love. I can find videos on Ubuntu anywhere, but videos about customizing distros like Devuan or Void to get them to a daily driver level would be nice to see, and would give them some well deserved attention as well.

Man, I can't run these crusty vanilla distros. I'm very lazy to go hunt for packages and install a bunch of stuff to just get what I need. I like stuff to work out of the box. Elementary has been more than enough for me. I've run arch, debian and other ones, but couldn't keep them.

I think everything in the menu, like Mutt, is just because the debian package has a dmenu entry. They just choose to install mutt by default because a lot of system admins still like to use it, and this is the Veteran Unix Admins variant of Debian.

I-ve just done the opposite and gone full systemd! Grub is gone and systemd boot is faster and stable. They should definitely have an Adwaiter-free(-) protest distro though!

Dt distro review: Actually learn about a distribution.
Switched to Linux distro review: watching someone learn about a distribution as they go.
