The Brave Search Engine. Will This Be The Google Killer? DistroTube Brave's new search engine recently had it's public launch. Brave, the makers of the Brave Browser, aim to provide a truly privacy-focused search engine that serves independent results rather than pulling from Google or Bing. Also, Brave wants to serve search results free from bias and without pushing any political agendas. - https://search.brave.com/ - https://brave.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/goggles.pdf

It looks like duckduckgo. I like hopping locations. On google I needed to go on settings. If I'm gonna search for something in German, I select Germany, if I'm going to search for something in English I usually don't select anything, maybe the US, if I'm searching for some local thing, I select Brazil. So it's very good to be able to change the results location really fast. On google, it seemed that if I didn't change anything, half of my search results, when I searched for something in English, would be flooded with translations. Now I'm learning German so I think it's good to switch the location to Germany so I don't get too many results in English.

Most important thing for me is they make it open source, (I might be using wrong word but what I mean is how their algorithm works should be open and every other things, even things like how they invest on keeping their server alive, how much fund they get and where they go and all, I think open system would be more proper)

I quit using Google Search (everything Google, really) back in 2018 and have used DDG non-stop. I've had no problems with DDG or its search results, but I will be giving Brave Search a shot. I don't know if it's FOSS, but an independent search engine (not a metasearch engine) that respects my privacy is a good thing.

The question I've had forever about brave is - why? They're not doing anything new, and theyve slapped crypto into the mix because... It's trendy?
They swear they're not mining real crypto while they give you company script, we should totally trust them...

I'm still not happy that Brave isn't based on Firefox. It is so damn important for the ecosystem that not every single inch of internet standard is controlled by Google. Brave is a nice idea, so I don't understand why they put themselves in Google's hands.

I guess it all depends on your search needs. I tried looking up a specific site on Brave and it only gave up an old address of the site, and even then I had to add extra key words whereas on Google and DDG the same current site appeared with no problems

I used to use brave daily, duckduckgo respected my privacy so well it made it very difficult to search for some local store or supermarket without getting results from the other side of the world, making the experience quite frustrating at times.

I've tried duck duck go, ecosia, and others before. none of the I was able to switch to, but I've tried brave search since private beta and I gotta say brave search is really good that I switched it to my default since day 1

The problem with community knowing how the algorithm works means Black Hat SEO becomes easy to do. And it would RUIN your search results. That's why page ranking algorithms are -secret-.

I used Duck Duc Go a few times and is great searching results in english, but no so good in other languages. Am impressed with Brave search engine.
