20,000 Page Static Website Written In Org Mode DistroTube The distro.tube website has been up for a couple of years. It is a static website written in Org mode in Emacs. Until yesterday, it was about 50 pages. I decided to add another 21,000 pages to the site. Why? Because I wanted to see how viable it is to maintain such a large static website using Emacs and 'org-publish' . - https://distro.tube/ - https://gitlab.com/dwt1/distro.tube

This is really neat. Every time I see you do something cool with org mode in emacs, it really makes me wish I could get over my VI bias and learn to use it. Too many hours spent in computer lab in college being forced to use VI on Solaris and VMS has made it almost impossible to get it out of my head. I was going to try the EVIL mode but still it's really really hard to change old habits. - Btw, for a non-programmer, you do a pretty good job explaining this. Maybe teaching is your calling.

Why not just use Nextjs/Gatsby/Nuxt/SvelteKit or any SSG tool or even vanilla HTML/Markdown to make this kind of static blog sites & just host to GithubPages/Netlify/Vercel for free or even a personal Raspberry PI mini server. I don't get it, how you guys come up with this kind of weird web & hosting plan/platform

i always felt like this guy simply reads manpage and makes 10-20 min video about something that is so easy to search ...never had much respect. But this is impressive. It feels like you intentionally tied your hands behind your back and found some awesome ways to solve that anyway. Good job!

Derek this -maker- video is one of my favorites. I've been intimidated by your Emacs videos and saw no reason to challenge myself to learn this program. With this content you presented, now I see a reason why I should. I look forward to more content from you that inspires.

I really need to get on with learning Bash scripting and perhaps Org-mode as well... especially when it comes to things like this, as I have a few websites in mind that don't need to use WP.
I was wondering though, what static site generator are you using?

I have to say, when i saw you sorted stuff and etc. i was kinda afraid.
-ohh here we go. here comes the javascript bloat-
But no! im SO glad u used something else! and its super cool to see how this whole thing was made!
cheers from norway!

If Emacs Org-Mode is taking forever to render tens of thousands of documents, why not write a simple Emacs Lisp script to do the formatting things for you and run Emacs in -batch mode- in a separate process? That is what I would do.

9:00 org-mode version 9.5 or more supports -#+begin_src :async- without installing ob-async.
This flag let you use emacs while running source block in background. Check org-mode official release notes for more info.

Hey DT.. You mentioned, that a full build does take hours. How long does it actually take? And another question. Have you built in any kind of parallelism to increase performance?
