Tor Browser Linux Setup and Tutorial - Techlore Video tutorial showing how to download, install, and setup Tor Browser on Ubuntu and Linux Mint safely and anonymously step by step. This will work on any version of Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Download Tor Browser to stay anonymous, safe, secure, and private on the web and also to access the deep web anonymously. There are many uses for the onion browser such as general private browsing, masking your IP address, professional having to remain anonymous, in addition to doing something extremely secure in your life. Tor uses nodes which filter and encrypt your traffic to make you much more secure than when you are normally browsing the web. Pair tor with a VPN to improve your security even further. Tor will allow you to bypass regional restrictions like China, or bypass wifi restrictions to access websites such as Youtube, Reddit, or Neftlix. Commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa: webupd8team/tor-browser sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install tor-browser

A better way:
1) Go to torproject. org and download the file (there are 64bit and 32bit versions)
2) $ cd Downloads
3) $ tar xvf tor-browser-linux64-8. 0. 3_en-US. tar. xz
4) Inside the Downloads folder a new folder called 'tor-browser_en_US' was created, go inside of it and click on the Setup icon.
5) Click 'CONNECT'. Congrats you are done! This works on Linux Mint 18. 3

Didn't work for me on Mint. The first command never brought up a password. 2nd command looked different from this video. Got errors about saving source cache and the package lists or status files couldn't be parsed or opened. 3rd command brought write errors

You can delete the lock file with the following command:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
You may also need to delete the lock file in the cache directory:
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
