How I set up a AREDN Off Grid Peer to Peer Mesh Network - Part 1 - Rob Braxman Tech How to create your own version of the Internet in an emergency. This is an example of a Mesh Network which currently is a two node network. This can connect to hundreds of nodes on the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN. This is similar to Broadband Hamnet (BBHN) from which AREDN originated from. In this video a show an example network 4 miles apart and the goal is to connect it to a AREDN network backbone 27 miles away. I'm using the following equipment here. Ubiquity Nanostation M5 (2) Raspberry Pi 3 B (2) Software - AREDN Mesh 13. 19. 3. 0

I have been lazy about getting my HAM license. I am retired now, so time to get off my a$$. My interest is in creating a totally off grid camera network for a remote mountain property I am looking at purchasing. I need locally-monitored live video from about 32 HD cameras and there will be no internet available to achieve this.

Thanks Rob, I have always dreamed of creating my own mesh network in London and beyond, allowing for peer to peer hosting of webservers. I also imagine a VOIP system for users to talk to each other through this mesh. One day!

Hey Rob, there's another project that's been going for quite a few years now, maybe a decade. it's called the Serval Batphone. you might like to check it out. Its creator is on Youtube: Paul Gardner-Stephen.

What is the difference between a long distance router and an antenna? For example, could a node be built with coaxial cable, a sector antenna, and an access point in place of the long distance router?

In an emergency, license isn't required. But, certainly good to have in order to practice and be prepared. Like owning a gun and never practicing with it. Won't get you far in an emergency.

There should be a reset button on the POE adapter of the radio. We work with a lot of Ubiquiti radios, and I didn't even notice it until recently! It's a life saver!

Great video thank you. If I understood well in order to use this system there should be more people using it in the area so the antennas can communicate. Am I right?
