I disagree with your view on Windows phones. Windows owned corporate America phones with Outlook, Word, and Excel built in. I had the HTC Touch Pro2. It was the pocket pc with cell capabilities. I could wipe it, try different operating systems, or set it up dual-boot. It was Balmer who threw it all away. He switched the operating system to the Zune gaming system OS which could not use the thousands of apps that Android and IOS couldn't come close to competing with. Balmer decided to start a store like Apple and freeze out multi-tasking apps except for Microsoft apps. They called the apps Metro, then Modern, then Universal, trying to ditch the Metro disdain. The mess is still with us in Windows 10 even though Microsoft abandoned the platform. Apple was there and building. Android was nowhere but was the most open, and the only place the other hardware vendors could go. Microsoft's previous developers developed the tools and apps for Android. It took years for Android and IOS to come close to Windows Mobile apps which is why I couldn't leave the Touch Pro2. So the problem with Windows phones is they DON-T run Windows apps. People HATED Microsoft's Surface tablets that ran RT/Zune. The only reason Microsoft tablets are around today is they run real Windows apps. If people could get their hands on a pocket PC again, Android and IOS will go the way of the MAC where the only the 5% who want to make a statement would be running them. The phones would tie into corporate networks seamlessly and easily managed, which you still cannot do today. Balmer blew Microsoft's advantage. It would be like releasing a Windows 11 that would not be able to run all previous Windows programs.

Good incite. how about linix phone running something like synology dsm. just tweak the browser a little (to make the small screen work)and you have a mobile data center, chat, mail, vm, file share/xfer, vpn, etc, etc and walki talki it would almost be ready to compete with ios and droid. lol. this kind of phone makes me want to TRUST MY TECHO LUST!

Rob, I am an average consumer. No experience with Linux. Carrying an iPhone currently, but want to ditch for many reasons (privacy concerns being one. Would a Librem 5 be something I can use, or is it not really prime time yet?

it still gives away the phone's imei id soon as the wifi is turned on to get internet. that still track your location. and that id# doesn't change so to comply with FCC regulation if it's to be legally sold in U. S. So yeah

Cool phone, but ebanking in EU works only via push notifications to the phone and the banking apps only work on ios or android.
So people with a librem 5 will need a second phone for ebanking. At least in the EU

Libertine can run many x86_64 packages. For example, Steam and some older games could probably work, but with the limited hardware + the emulation layer, I doubt this will even run the original, 1998 Half life 1

Will these phones support VoLTE? Cricket Wireless is pushing to new models -VoLTE and 5G, and there is no support for Lineage OS or /e/ for those. Not sure about Linux phones. So, I think we are zucked.

the really big thing is the OS.
I hope once Librem 5 is out, somebody out there makes a port of it for the Planet Computers Gemini so i could switch over to that as my daily driver
