Audio Production: Learn the Fundamentals Ivan: Hi there, great video on these subjects. I have just gotten a Novation circuit rhythm groovebox sampler. Its a great product and it's also portable and also runs on batteries. Yes it also has connection to outlet to recharge the batteries or use it while connected to a power outlet.
My concern with this product is that if i want to use it with just the headphones, it is too low of volume even if the volume knob is all the way up. My hearing is not all that great. I have a hearing loss since birth. Still can hear a little bit through the headphones. but no issues when using the headphones on other devices such as my audio interface, and iphone. Its just that the Novation circuit rhythm device has low volume power. unless i connect the Novation Circuit rhythm to an amp or audio interface and connect my headphones on the audio interface and i'd be fine. But there times when i want to hear the sounds coming out of the circuit rhythm since it doesnt have speakers. The circuit rhythm has outputs 1/4 ts jacks on the rear of the unit.
I have and still use it to this day a Digi 003 rack mount audio interface by digidesign. Still works for me. Only issue I have wth the digi 003 is that it now makes this static noise when i turn the buttons up or down.
What cables should i use to connect the outputs of the circuit rhythm to an amp source in order to hear the sounds of the circuit rhythm? should I connect it to my audio interface?
please let me know. Thank you.

So you think that by talk math formulas make you an authoritarian on music production. The first thing I saw is that AC, birds, etc background noise should be present in your vocals. NO. There is a reason for acoustic panels. you don't want any of that in your vocal. Furthermore, talking on distance from the mic is so overly complex. It is simple, on a condenser mic. the further away you are the weaker your vocals sound and the more ambient sound creeps in. too close and your vocals are bassy and muffled. finding the sweet spot and placing your pop filter there is what you need. Why did you have to go so deep into unneeded explaination math formulas. That doesn't make you look credible but rather sobby. Your music production was done in Reaper and was more a Reaper tutorial than fundementals in audio production, and reaper is the worst DAW to start this with Studio One is the best DAW for beginniers and long time porfessionals alike. Yes Reaper is only $60 but Studio One as a subscription called Sphere is only $15 per month and you get. the professional version. melodyne, notion, all presonous virtual inst, and plugins. It work flow is far far easier than Reaper. I like reaper but it is not beginner friendly. At least you didn't go Pro Tools because its industry standard I hate that crap.

Very well done. Just in case this hasnt already been pointed out, it appears the narrative around 22: 30 is incorrect. After testing the directional mic, the proximity effect and increased bass response is noticeable. However, your comment [paraphrased] you should have heard the bass increase as I got closer occurs only after testing the omnidirectional mic, which I dont think exhibited that response. A simple edit, swapping out that line to follow the previous clip might clear up the issue and prevent any confusion. But I could be wrong or missing something. Cheers & thanks for the great instruction.

Ive done a degree in music which taught me nothing and I mean nothing about music tech. All theory and scoring by Sibelius, that was the closest we got to tech. Ive always felt like music tech was a huge hole in my knowledge and as an aspiring voice over artist its been a source of great shame. Your video has made this whole world so much more approachable. I feel like Im starting to understand the physics of music and how signal works so that when I go to record an audiobook i know what to do to get the best sound. Will definitely be subscribing, thank you! Xx

What a great class on sound recording. I have always enjoyed having a sound tech when I worked but on my own later I realize what an art it is to record well. I am struggling now to get a feel for DAW recording and using my 24 track as an interface device. I paid some attention to my sound guys and watched from time to time but that doesn't make me much more qualified to engineer sound than him watching me play guitars and sing qualifies him to play on this side of the desk. I need fundamentals and basic methodology.

For a lot of people this can be extremely overwhelming given all the information in this video, so what I recommend is to just watch at least one section of this video a day until you have finished the whole video, then, repeat at least 3 times. It will probably seem boring and repetitive but trusty me all the information in this video is going to subconsciously be transferred into your brain without you knowing it. It is truly the best way to learn a great deal of info.
Good luck: D

The video is very informative, but you are talking about digital audio recording and not audio in general. Certainly today the digital medium is used, but; You have misused the concept. You also have serious problems with the audio mix you used to make this video. You're teaching the fundamentals of digital audio, but the music you used in editing competes brutally with your dialogue. You can't teach digital audio fundamentals and have abysmal problems with sound mixing.

Thanks so much Dave that was explained so clearly I learnt a lot I look forward to future videos I have a nine-year-old niece who composes her own music on both guitar and piano so far, she is amazing, so I thought Id set up the recording studio. I had previous experience as DJ and hanging around musicians youve just made a little bit more clearer what Im doing. Appreciate your clear and concise teaching. Mike J

Yo, I've been in the stagehand/audio world for many years and I never went to audio school. Ive run countless bands throughout my experience, content like this is just incredible for somebody like myself and I thank you a million. What a time to be alive lol, hopefully they never invent a robot with ears.

I am brand new to audio engineering as I want to get better at recording my music at home. This tutorial is incredible and supplements my reading so beautifully. Is there a place where I can download a copy of this video? Its so good.

Anyone have a sort of road map to teaching yourself audio engineering/production online without paying for a degree? I wanna establish a game plan but dont want to actually do college again.

What do you think of cars' music box that got 2 woofers, 2 mid and 2 tweeters? Can it be used as home theater and sound system or a conventional home theater system is better?
