Fallout 4 on Linux - Configuration and Gameplay - Chris Titus Tech In episode 7 of windows games on Linux, I am going over Fallout 4. This works decently out of the box using proton, but with some glitches and audio issues. This guide shows you how to clear all that up. Here is my cheat sheet from the setup: Install xact via Winetricks WINEARCH=win64 WINEPREFIX='/home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx' winetricks xact Install faudio https://github.com/Kron4ek/FAudio-Builds/releases/download/19.01/faudio-19.01.tar.xz -Extract dlls to steamapps/common/Fallout 4/prefix/drive_c/windows/system32/ -Change Audio Libraries - Override xaudio2_7 and set to native WINEARCH=win64 WINEPREFIX='/home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx' winecfg Fallout 4 Launcher Options Set God Rays off Modify Fallout4.ini [Controls] bBackgroundMouse=1 [Display] bComputeShaderDeferredTiledLighting=0 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=1 iSize H=1080 iSize W=2560 Launch Options PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_HUD=fps %command%

It's actually a lot easier now thanks to proton 4.2 because you don't have to mess with any wine configurations to get Fallout working. All you have to do is change the ini files to remove tiled lighting and God rays. Then add the background Mouse option. Finally you can set proton No esync to one in the steam launcher. There's one more thing you need to do with dxvk in the steam launcher but I don't quite remember what it is. Sorry for having a terrible memory but if you want a good idea on how to make it work just go to the proton database and you can find the launch options there. For now however the game works like a dream for me but there is one issue that just seems weird. Fallout will randomly crash after an unknown amount of time sometimes it will crash in the first 10 minutes and other times I get no crashes in a three-hour play session. As I said before the game runs as smooth as butter but for some reason it'll just randomly crash. I hope this comment was helpful.

thanks for making these awesome videos !
i followed this method and for me it does not work. checked my settings, and re checked, followed your instructions to the letter.(ofc with my own directories lol) i have the settings on low, but regardless my game does not launch. I get the initial launcher with play, settings, support, exit, but when i hit play i get a black screen and then it self exits. any insight to what i may have done wrong would be much appreciated. tyia!

-Chris Titus Tech hi please help. When i'm running fallout4 with your setup (or with any proton setup) it just freezes at loading screen. I need to wait like 10 minutes or more to load to main menu. But even there after clicking anywhere it freezes again. But cpu is not loaded.
specs: intel 9750H, nvidia 2060, running from hdd (could this be a problem?)
I dont see any information about this on internet

I know there is info on SKSE64 and Linux, but would like to see installation and configuration of skse64 from your point of view. There is a large community of Bethesda game modders who would be interested in this plus some of the utilities used in modding (Wrye Bash, Mod Organizer, Vortex, XEdit, Bodyslide, etc.).

I used this in steam launch settings for fallout 4: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
this fixes textures and stuttering and gives very smooth frame rates...but the sound is not fixed...so you're sound fix is the way to go
the launch settings can be used for other games such as bioshock remastered 1 & 2

So I have fallout 4 installed in windows and I want to play around in Linux
Can I run my windows installed fallout 4 (or any steam game) from my Linux install (duel boot on another HDD) or do I need to download it again inside of Linux to have this hybrid windows/Linux install of fallout.

Thank you. This video fixed the audio issues about 98%. There is still the occasional pop or click but nothing too distracting. Don-t know how or why but the lockup on exit also stopped after following the instructions.
