Ryzen 9 3900X vs Core i9-9900K: When Intel is better

While we recommend AMD's 3rd gen Ryzen 9 3900X for most PC builders, there are still some instances where you might want an Intel Core i9-9900K. Gordon runs down a quick review of the 3900X and then lists out some of those reasons why the 9900K is still better for some things. Why are you benching over 300FPS and claiming it as an intel win? Not being funny, but unless your monitor goes to that refresh rate (which it won't) it's useless as you; re still locked to your monitors refresh rate ultimately. It's pointless. It's funny watching people try and justify intels absolute max of 11% on SOME titles as making it the best in gaming, when realistically, the vast majority of people looking to buy these chips won't have monitors running over 300hz, meaning that it ISN'T the best in gaming for the end user being locked to 60, 120, or 240hz.
AMD just have them cornered, and their 10th gen isn't exactly all singing all dancing compared to the AMD 3950X either, and if the 3950X can go toe-to-toe with the latest 10th gen processors, the 4th gen Ryzen chips are going to beat intel like a ginger step child!
TL: DR - Buy an AMD processor as you'll see so much more performance out of it in general, as well as it smashing the majority of gaming titles. Intels tiny lead on gaming alone no longer justifies their options when AMD are also cheaper and offer all round performance intel will take years and years to catch up on.

I think you and other reviewers are making a mistaken assumption in assuming the majority of user will be OC their processors, much less that they will be OC to the max level each CPU advertises. While mb makers have made OC-ing easier, it always comes at a cost in CPU life, system stability, I used OC, but found for a rock solid system that could work for multitasking, business apps, and gaming without glitching, the base settings were the key. I believe most that build their own systems as an actual working tool rather than a -toy- go the same way. There is too much drama already without your PC being a contributor.

9700k only for gaming, yes.
9900k is trash. too expensive and barely faster computing than 9700k. gets massacred by ryzen 3900x and 3950x in productivity.
and even 9700k loses in gaming value against 3300x (which needs cheaper motherboards, cheaper cooling, cheaper psu)

I have watched some many vids and am still confused i9 is better for gaming especially at 240hz but is it still better for streaming on twitch while playing at 240 hz because they mention content creation might favor the 3900x

Aside from performance, what about things like hardware compatibility, stability, motherboard construction quality between x570 and z490, and motherboard bios quality? Does intel win in any of those categories? Thanks.

I am always an intel cpu. Yes amd have a better value for the money but if money is not an issue why would people buy an amd? He forgot to say that amd always have issue working together with rams

I am want to build a gaming and streaming pc and I am leaning to and due to core count because gaming and streaming on the same pc could benefit with more cores over 8. But dam I want the 5ghz

It is almost imposible to find a review from techs perspective about the best cpu for DAWs and specific programs like Protools, Logic, Cubase, please us with that or tell us where to find info.

Planning on building with a 3070 what should I get. I want to play games at 240fps but also stream or edit videos. Is it still smart to go for the 9900k becuase that doesnt support pcie4
reply

Not sure i would notice difference between 100 fps and 120 fps with naked eye.
Intel winning by 6-9 fps is enough to make me buy whichever is cheaper.
