Intel has been focusing on performance per watt for years.
The first generation CPUs on a smaller process have power savings, but not really any better absolute performance.
This was the result in past generations so it shouldn't be surprising that it is happening here.
This is the reason you can see people getting by with a 3rd or 4th generation Intel in the latest games. All the research and development has gone into power savings, which are irrelevant for desktop users.
It is even more apparent that there is very little performance gain when you consider we are testing DDR3 vs DDR4 as well, so the 10th gen laptop had an unfair advantage, as desktop 9th gen is already using DDR4
however the real world impact is huge with these chips
the average user, who uses a laptop, either PC or Mac, will now have enough performance to play PC games on their regular device. You don't need to go out and buy a gaming laptop or a desktop to play casual games.
this will open up PC gaming to a huge new audience and will change the whole industry.
The improvements with the new instruction sets for encoding mean that young people can get into content creation on their school laptop.

If you are gaming at all, I would probably say to shoot for a 2060 laptop at the $1k-1. 4k mark instead, because in all reality the 25watt parts are in all likelihood going to be in $750-1200 config thin and lights, as they tend to really price gouge that portion of the market, and at that point a bit extra cash can nab you an Alienware/Asus/MSI/Razer thin and light gaming laptop for a bit more of a premium.
I would rather buy more than what I need rather than regret it later, personally I'd wait for NVidia Laptop 7nm parts from Samsung's EUV/UVL node process lithography before investing again, and just buy whatever 6core part from intel is available. Pay more update less often, especially for Mobile products.

Why on earth did you not compare it to AMD? Especially for graphics.
It just seems like you want it to look good. People watching this would like to know how it compares to a proper 2700u system, not to mention the new 3000 series.
Guys, this does not look good. Yes it is good to compare to Whiskey, but it makes you seem trying to promote Intel. I believe you're not, but that is the message you are sending. It comes across as an Intel advert. You can do better.
Try the Acer Nitro and just use internal graphics, but please use newest drivers from AMD.

Hi, I'm planning to buy the new Lenovo Yoga C940 14 inch. It has Quad core i7-1065G7 and 16GB LPDDR4X 3733MHz. I'm planning to use this machine with an external gpu (Razer Chroma X 700W) and an RTX 2080 ti overclocked card. Do you think the Yoga and the i7-1065G7 cpu is strong enough to play VR games on the Valve Index smoothly-?

The microarchitecture is clearly top dawg on x86 IPC. Had 10nm been clocking as high it would be a blowout, but even here with almost a 20% boost reduction they're able to usually eke out a win vs Whisky. That hopefully means battery life will be much better, and the IGP performance improvement is substantial.

Hi Guys, great job! thanks for all the info. quick question for Adam. Intel Core i5-9300H (New XPS 15) vs Core i7-10510U (New XPS 13) processing wise is there a big difference? Still debating for a bigger screen 15- and a capable ram expansion to 32GB vs the New XPS 13 with built in ram and SSD. Please advise.

In Sky Diver Graphics Performance, it looks like MX150 10 and 25 watt performance bars are reversed (time 16: 57. Would've been interesting to compare to 2500U/Vega 8 for graphics - I assume the CPU would be thrashed. I have a HP x360 with 2500u which works well with a USB driven cooler.

False benchmark: You are comparing apples with oranges. You should compare G7 with Iris Plus from previous generation, or you should compare G1 with UHD 620 from 8565u.

Would be great if they could run these same benchmarks over AMD Vega 9 and 10 as well, I think the performance should be more similar than with Nvidia MX 150 series
