Doesn't really seem all that impressive. I mean you're just setting affinity of background threads to E cores. I'd be much more impressed if the background threads used all cores but had lower priority so the foreground app had top priority but background tasks had all of the remaining performance available. That would show all logical CPUs pegged 100% roughly... ideally it would monitor PPT and reduce usage of background threads to keep it below power limits to prevent foreground app from slowing down.

HONESTLY:
The New GPUs are so big that i will need to upgrade my SFF PC to a bigger case. I will take the time to just Upgrade the entire thing and future proof for DDR5, so will stick with AMD.
Spending money on Intel on an obsolete hardware that i will still need to upgrade later on is an even bigger waste of money.

Well hang on. How can it be smart enough, It can't know. Imagine starting a render on all threads, then killing the time in a browser, meanwhile, half of your threads switch over to the browser instead of carrying on with the render. Like I think having a mode where like 4 E cores are always free would be better.

So it isnt actually thread director 2, but just a refresh/update to the current one, since it works on Aldor lake as well rigth ? well still not gonna make me swap to win11, but maybe in a year or so, when more bugs are ironed out and MS has a control on the potential preformance downgrades as well.

There's only 1 major issue that prevents me from upgrading to Win11:
When I have 11 windows open from one program, Windows 11 insists on squeezing its taskbar buttons into a 1cm x 1cm square.
I don't want a taskbar designed for 4-inch phone on my 1-meter wide computer display.

On Intel 7 they have managed to add 8 more E-Cores on the i9 13900K, when they move to Intel 4 they can add even more E-Cores. Now it is like having a 16 Core Skylake for the E-Cores. The smarter the Thread Director gets, the more advantage is had from adding more cores gets.

Just Windows 11? Not even Windows 10? And here I was starting to slightly lean towards the 13900k since it has more cores & cheaper than the 7950X. I guess we can forget support for Linux using this feature.

its definitely cool seeing it figure out whats 'important' automatically but as a person who manually sets up cpu affinity per app im a bit skeptical, cant say win11 is exciting either lol

Intel trying to reinvent the Cadillac 8-6-4. Hopefully they move past it soon. They should have learned their lesson with Itanium, the OS doesn't exist to service your whack designs.

Knocking it out of the park Gordon, well done. The other question is though how much of this is the new processor and how much is actually being done by windows coding?

I would say first thing you do Gordon, testing this scenario (gaming in front, rendering in back) on a Ryzen 9 7950x vs 13900K wenn both are available :) thanks!

The fact it requires windows 11 for it to work properly is just dumb. Perhaps if your architecture wasn't unnecessarily complex there wouldn't be need for this.

how to force rendering with all cores in the tray? I minimize the window and instead of the expected time, I get a render that is twice or even three times longer

I'm really interested to see the power draw from the cpu during real world gaming. 12th actually used less power than r9 so hopefully they improved upon that.
