Why The Legion Go Isn't My Go To Handheld

It's been over three months since the launch of the Lenovo Legion Go, and Adam is here to re-review it and talk about the pros and cons of the device, and ultimately it's just not the one he reaches for. Since I've got one of these, the only headache I've had with this device are the lack of proper PC controller support. The Legion GO has some 17 individual buttons on its chassis, yet for some unfathomable reason, Lenovo has decided that one should not be able to see and map all 17 buttons as a single controller, as should be doable on a Windows PC using D-Input. Its totally annoying being forced to use the console class X-Input system and be limited to the tiny number of buttons on the X- ox controller.

Even if the execution is a bit awkward, I really like that Lenovo is experimenting with different ways to interact with the device. I would plan to plug this into my TV or projector as much as I would be playing as a handheld , so I love the direction they're going with the different control modes. I'd probably trade FPS mode for a more game-friendly track pad like the Steam Deck, but I applaud their efforts to push the boundaries of what you can do with devices like these.

I returned my Go after about a week, many pros & cons but ultimately I just didn't love it like the steam deck. Completely disagree on the detachable controllers though. Lounging on sofa or bed with the Go propped up on my belly (kickstand ) with my hands by my sides was just blissfully comfortable (despite the poor ergonomics of those top edges). I loved it! It's the one thing I miss.

I have Legion Go and I love it, but I do agree that it's heavy that I can't game too long ( more than 2 hours without resting my hands ). Also never use fps mode however the detachable controller is nice because you can just put it on the table and use the controller wirelessly and the weight problem is gone.

you do know that you don't have to hold the thing while you play right you can literally play it while it's resting on the kickstand, its comfortable as fk
for clarity regarding the GO in general
it is literally a handheld PC you have to go into it knowing and understanding that.

Adam you hit all the points I was thinking with the Legion Go. I don't own one nor have I tried one but immediately when seeing plenty of videos and reviews that are not all negative, I was thinking about all of those same points. Hopefully Lenovo makes something better.

Legion go isnt just a gaming device its also a high performance tablet. The stand even works in portrait mode. The detachable controllers let you completely bypass the weight and offer more flexibility to your posture while gaming. Steady bios and app updates. Its excellent

I had the same opinion before, but after using the device for a while, the screen just made all other handhelds tiny. I sold my Ally after the legion go became my preferred device.

Thank you for this talk. I honestly found that I don't use portable PC gaming except when in a hotel... So I never look at what's coming out. My Steam Deck does what I need.

Adam, i'm just curious why you're so into handhelds. I have a great PC with 4 32 inch monitors. If someone gave me a handheld, i might use it twice a year.

But if someone had only the Legion Go as their handheld, that would be their go-to. Don't flaunt your wealth in people's faces (that's not cool). :)

This video seems more nick picking lol the legion go is an amazing system. Only con for me is the sound but that’s why we have Bluetooth.

What device are you using instead of the lonovo im looking to purchase a handheld and I had my eyes set on lonovo but now idk

Windows is just a terrible choice for those devices. They should support Linux and work toward making Linux mainstream gaming choice.

Nice review, I'm waiting to see what the new ROG ally 2 this year has to offer. Probably picking up a steam deck OLED next winter.

Great video - you highlighted many issues I was concerned about pre-launch. Any plans to do a more in-depth video on the Kun
