we are going to learn the Content-Aware Scale in-depth and discover some of its amazing features and loopholes. IMAGE shiran: Hi, thanks for all your great tutorials! I'm trying to do this tutorial in order to stretch photos but it doesn't work for me. I follow your instructions one by one and when I scroll the photo to stretch it, it makes it just bigger from all sides, up-down and to the size, and the subject looks very bad. Do you have any idea what can be the reason for that? That photoshop won't allow me to stretch only to the side? I tried several pictures. It's really frustrating. I would appreciate your help very much.

Not sure if anything has changed, but it seems Adobe would just some simple programming changes to simplify the process and prevent stretching the subject.
Another idea: if not too much stretching is required, simply draw a box with marquee tool, include a bit of the colour at the edge, and hit Fill > Content Aware Fill.
Can be pretty amazing.

2019 version:
If you are cropping and getting an annoying white background, then just without cropping, hold shift then drag the image, a popup will open up saying convert to a new layer, click on that. it'll give you a transparent background. Then you can crop and continue.

Sorry. It didn't work for me. Just added an image to an existing layer. Content-Aware Scale is gray. :-( Didn't understand the 'C' key either. The problem is that you already have your image as your background. In my case, I get 2 layers (the background and the dragged image.

fun fact wich alot already know: content aware scale can lead to weird results when used to de-scale something without a background(transparency as background) when trying to stretch or squish the object

I don't usually sub after watching 1 video. I usually get the trick that I need and go, but this was so informative and answered succeeding questions, so the sub was deserved. Thank you.

Hey when I use the content aware scale it just keeps widening the whole picture instead of stretching the background. any guesses what I'm doing wrong? I'd really appreciate it if you answered me
